The owner used to have two golden retrievers, Amos and Ande. The dogs were frequently in the store sleeping in the back. I've seen them myself. The dogs died several years ago and the Vancouver store is no longer called that. It's still a clothing store so maybe it was sold. I dunno.
I'm not sure why the name is offensive to Americans. Whatever the reason I don't think most Canadians have any idea what the reference is so I doubt there is anything to this other than naming a store after some dogs.
