As a raging homosexual who's photographed every one of North Dakota's 900+ towns, there is something comforting about driving back up onto Capitol Hill at midnight and being stuck in a crowd of cars and people at Olive and Denny.
That said, it's kind of a surreal feeling to walk down the middle of a street at night and not have a soul around, like you're in a zombie movie or something. I don't personally find the towns themselves scary, just the activity around and heading to and from the local bar(s).
If there's no bar, then the town's days are numbered. That became pretty clear to me in North Dakota.
Hey! Jane! What did you say about eyes upon the street again? ;)
