I gotta believe Obama is sick of the "Yes We Can" chant - I also believe when DADT goes down (and it will) it will be permanent. Obama may not be a 'fierce advocate' but he's a hell of a chess player and I really think he has the big picture in mind.

It doesn't make sense to ban depictions of anything. The acts being depicted may be criminal but the depiction of it or the recording of it should not only be legal but protected. We criminalize the act of depiction so that we can find a scapegoat for the act being commited -- to make it easier for police to bring charges against someone -- not for doing the act but for being "involved", a second-degree sort of "crime" but not necessarily the primary offender (who cares as someone, anyone goes down -- like the anonymous man at the end of Fahrenheit 451). But in fact its the video that often gives the evidence that the crime was committed.

We complain a lot about news organizations not doing solid investigative reporting anymore, the sort that would make them vital to society. But what if a news organization secretly filmed an act of animal cruelty? That act -- the filming -- would be illegal under this law. But that filming (and redistribution of such) would be exactly what is necessary to bring public attention to the crime. This is why recorded materials shouldn't in themselves ever be illegal. A videotape is an innocent object, it has no part in the physical act, it is just the messenger and it should not be shot.

I think the more we destroy habitat with our pollutants, the more helpless we feel in our efforts to save animal species. This results in more laws that do nothing more than salve our consciences.

Did you notice that Obama sort of taunts the GLBT audience members by telling them that they have nowhere else to go? Is he holding GLBT citizens hostage? Someone should tell him that Ron Paul views gay marriage as a simple contract and should be legalized. I won't vote for Obama a second time; and, I will give my vote to Ron Paul. If Paul isn't on the ballot, I will go liberaterian. Dems and Reps have proven themselves to be both sides of the token which is owned by corporations. Of 573 actions taken by the Obama administration, only 7 changed Bush policy. Now that is telling! They will skip off into the sunset holding hands and corporate donations. I'll still be looking for a good paying job.

You guys, the look on Obama's face is "Bitch, I got this". I agree with DavidC. He is one hell of a chess player. He has things in the works. Remember that people were all upset about healthcare in August "Oh the president isn't doing anything, blah blah blah" and then he gets it DONE in a year? That is pretty damn good progress.

Also, he can't repeal DADT until after the 2010 elections. Sorry, but it may alienate swing voters. Best to do it like January of 2011, when people don't care about what the politicians are doing. Just saying, I think Obama is on this.

Please wait...
