I just wish they would have named him Randy.
2
Dan, as an editor, I would hope that you'd know that "it's" = "it is".
3
Whoop's. Sorry.
4
ha!

I always kind of suspected Pops down at the Sweet Shop was a chickenhawk. And this guy might be the first gay MALE character--let's not forget Mrs. Grundy. The closet may be deep or shallow, but she's in it.
6
My mom used to buy me Christian Archie comics. I wonder if they still make those?
7
I always thought Reggie, who tried so hard, was definitely compensating for something. Oh well.
8
I grew up on these... and I always thought that Jughead's pointed lack of interest in girls was saying something.
9
Soooo... first smoochies with Jughead, Moose, or Reggie? Or does Archie become the straight-identified guy who enjoys the occasional cock?
10
Maybe Kevin Keller is the Mr. Poe of Riverdale, and heads for Mr. Lodge.
11
If he's going to be openly gay, then how will they have a storyline where Veronica can't figure out why he's not into her?

I don't read Archie so maybe I'm missing something? Is Veronica extraordinarily dense or something?
12
And it is Miss Grundy, not Mrs. Sorry for any confusion.
13
I think I've fallen behind in my Gay Guy Lingo Magazine Monthly subscription, so you'll forgive me if this has been all over the place and I'm just now picking up on it, but what kind of gay is a 'Baldwin'?

Little Debbie Schlussel saw it too.

they’re pushing a new openly gay character on kids. Kevin Keller is his name, and Betty and Veronica are more interested in him than Archie. (I went to elementary school with a kid named Kevin Keller; perhaps he should sue for defamation.)

Does no one else remember this bit from "Chasing Amy"?

BANKY
Archie, alright! Archie and the Riverdale gang were a pure and fun-lovin bunch. You cant find dysfunction in those comics, because they were just flat out wholesome.

HOOPER
Archie and Jughead were lovers.

BANKY
Shut the fuck up.

HOOPER
Its true. Archie was the bitch and Jughead was the butch - thats why Jughead wears that crown-looking hat all the time: he the king, of queen Archies world.

BANKY
Man, I feel a hate-crime coming on

HOLDEN
Hes got a point. Archie never did settle on Betty or Veronica.

BANKY
Because he wanted them both at the same time, you assholes! He never chose one because he was trying to get both of them into a three-way!

......
BANKY
You are marching back across the street with me, and were going to pick up a shit load of Archie books, I am going to prove to you - beyond the shadow of a doubt that Archie was all about pussy. Come on.
16
@11 -- I imagine that the storyline is an introduction to the character, which will end with him (or someone else) telling Veronica that the new guys isn't into her because -- duh -- he's gay.
17
@10, I am reminded how hawtt I found Mr. Lodge as a wee lad.

Also, Guanabee noted a couple weeks ago they announced Archie'd be hooking up with Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats. Wouldn't she be the first black Archie character with an actual storyline? That doesn't count Nancy Woods with her walk-ons.
18
I always thought Moose was kinda hawt!

If they finally get a Hispanic character we would have all the four food groups present!
19
Can't wait to see if he's allowed to go to the Riverdale prom!
20
Just one gay guy. So... unrequited love will be his theme?
21
....does anyone still read those, besides middle-aged nostlagia hounds?
22
I thought this was going to be about Jughead coming out as gay.

Did Vanity Smurf ever come out?
23
@21 -- I inherited a bunch from an older cousin when I was about 8; I read them pretty religiously until I was about 12. I learned to draw copying them. Eventually I graduated to respectable comics from Vertigo & Darkhorse, but I wouldn't have become a comics fan if not for Archie!

Please wait...
