oh no. I guess a sub-editor's been fired for that one?
2
wow
3
Obviously, that's more than just an inadvertant mistake, and yeah, my guess is that whoever's responsible for it has joined the great unemployed masses by now.
4
It's true, though -- Malcolm was a great proponent (and producer) of wind.
5
That looks photoshopped
6
You can see how they'd get those two pictures mixed up, huh?

yeah, I guess I can, if today happens to be the day Thomas Hagan, murderer of Malcolm X, was released from prison. http://bit.ly/cVpxYo
7
Malcolm X's killer was paroled today...
8
@4 - Comedy gold!
9
This is a good thing. Good only in the sense that it is undeniable evidence that overt racism is on the rise, in all quarters of American society. It's terrible that so many authorities are in denial about that.
10
@ #6

Yup. It can happen very easily. Too many pictures on the desktop and an overworked, underpaid editor is movin' too fast.
11
Most of the columnists and writers at WaPo are not just racist, but anti-American ultra-right racists.

Kind of sad commentary on the paper.
12
How does the motto go again? Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity?
13
scary black dude

that there is a tea party redundancy.
14
I agree with 1, 6, 7 and 10. The corrected story with that picture right now is about Thomas Hagan's parole. (The Obama story is no longer accompanied by a picture.) My guess is that there was a glitch/mistake in the application that scrolls through photos and their accompanying headlines that caused the mismatch.

Too bad for whoever got fired for this that it happened to be Malcom X and not the adorable baby foal picture.
15
The Malcolm X photo does appear quite appropriately in the current WaPo ULHC photo-rotation. As noted @6, this appears to be a garden-variety editorial screw-up.

People who live in Stranger offices should not throw stones.
16
meanwhile there is a teabagger going "I KNEW IT!!!" .ill agree this is prolly just stupidity. racially tinted stupidity, but stupidity nonetheless
17
Honest mistake, Jesus. White people are faster to play the race card these days than blacks are.
18
That's just who Teabaggers see when they look at Obama, or any black person.
19
malcom x was fucking cool and i'd like to hope some of his spirit is in obama. or at least he's read the autobiography.
20
Maybe it's just Denzel opening Fences on broadway.
21
*Snicker* This does look bad, but considering that it is now in the normal photo rotation on the WaPo site, I really do think that this is just a hilariously inappropriate website coding mistake.
22
M-M-M-MALCOLM!
23
If this was any paper other than the Washington Post, I might believe coincidence.
24
Are there any black people on this comments thread?

One?

....
25

Please....tell me that there is one non-white person posting here....just one...ONE!
26
Find it hard to believe that this mix up is credible. Is Malcolm X's murderer's release a front page item in Washington?
27
@ 26 - Yeah, it actually was on the front page of the WaPo site, with that picture. They change the pics and stories in the little photo box pretty frequently. Which is why my normally paranoid brain is inclined to think this really was a spectacularly unfortunate mixup.
28
Hell, I wish Malcolm X WAS the President. He probably wouldn't be supporting policies that are killing innocent people overseas. He'd probably have the balls to admit that the war on drugs hurts African-Americans especially. And he probably wouldn't care if he was a one term President.

Then again, the same things were probably true for Obama before he decided to run for President.
29
That was then.

Today's heroes are beleagured Derivatives Makers of Wall Street who The Man is taking down.

We must stand by our brother quants.

FREE LLOYD BLANKFEIN !!!

@ 29 - Free Hat! Free Hat!
31
Thank the Maker there are Journalistic Giants like The Stranger around That never ever make mistakes and can call the MSM on it's RACISM ! and Stupidity....
32
It's a totally understandable mistake. After all, black people all look alike.

Another possibility, maybe they mixed this picture up with the picture of the Goldman Exec's they meant to show.
33
@11; Will - I think you're thinking of the Times, not the Post.
34
@33: You're assuming any thinking goes on in Will's pea brain.
35
@13: FTW. Hahahaha.
36
Oh, this happened all the time with liberal newspapers, "accidently" mixing up pictures of George Lincoln Rockwell with those of George W. Bush.
37
@33 - no, they're worse at the Times, but just look at the roster at the WaPo.
38
I'm reading this on my tiny little Blackberry screen at the optomotrist's office with dilated pupils and it was still quite obvious that that wasn't Obama...
39
@ 37 - Ayep. That Gene Robinson hates the black folk.
40
@25 - Why? Is there something they would be saying that isn't being said?
42
Guys, before you jump to the conclusion that one of the only decent papers left in the country is run by racists, Malcolm X's assassin was released from prison that day. I'm sure the two photos just got mixed up.

Please wait...
