Uh-uh. I'm not watching that.
2
Fuck you, Dom.

Well, in the "why are you showing me this" way.

I'm making a frowning face. So is the Jesuswolf in my icon.
3
I'm not watching either. But I'll say this. When I was a kid, the worst thing they told us about the Soviet Union was the police woulk break down doors and drag people away. What would you rather have? Police dragging you away or firing weapons in your house around your children and killing your beloved pets?
4
I am not happy.
5
They shot a corgie? Seriously - the worst that dog will do is nibble your ankles, what is WRONG with these people? I hope this guy did get a lawyer and sues their @sses off.
6
it doesn't look like they shot the corgi, you can see it running around in the background. but by the sounds of the squealing, they definitely fucking shot the pit bull. i can't unwatch this and i wish i could.
7
cops ALWAYS shoot the dogs in nighttime raids. it's SOP: enter house, shoot dogs.
8
corgis are more dangerous than pit bulls! they should be banned, for the safety of the popo
9
I wish you could sign up to opt-out of swat raids when you register to vote. Seriously, if you have a warrant and want to check the house, just knock on the fucking door and I will let you in, I will keep the dog in the back yard. Jesus christ
10
I'm pretty sure shooting a corgi earns someone a direct ticket to hell.
11
Fuck!!!! So much anger!!!!!
12
Hey 5280, can you comment on drivel's post @ 7?
13
:(
14
Jesus fucking christ in a canoe with a lobster bib on. Can I go home now?
15
I wish I hadn't watched it. It made me cry.
16
I ain't watching it....I'm pissed off enough. It's hard to comprehend, really, just how fucking stupid and sad this is.

And yeah laterite @10: Shooting a corgi--or even pointing a gun toward one--and it's a lake of fire for your ass.
17
Save a dog, shoot a pig.
18
Holy crap. I wasn't planning on watching it, but, at least you can't see anything. This is literally insane. For one, why would you execute this warrant at night with a wife and kid present? And for two... well. Damn. Analysis doesn't really seem appropriate at the moment.
20
This shit happens all the damn time. You wonder how the Columbia MO police got the budget for all those neat M4's, entry shotguns, and body armor, why to fight the war on drugs of course. Kicking a door at 3am, shooting family pets, terrorizing women and children, taking the kid away to CPS, and all for a lousy bag of weed and a grinder? This ain't about law enforcement or community safety, it's about the money and power that come from the status quo.

Funny, even when the police fuck up royally, say by breaking down the wrong door, they never, NEVER, apologize.
21
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
22
The pit bull deserved it. But a CORGI?!?!
23
Ignore the 5 second intro to this video (which I don't think has nothing to do with the case). SWAT team raids home of mayor on drug investigation, kills both family dogs. Turns out, mayor is completely innocent (really). This is a video of the news coverage (not the raid), but still really galling.

Hey, where are all the "cops are people, too" folks?

Insane, inhuman police brutality just ain't complete w/o a "the brave people who defend us from the baddies and have such a huge burden, cut them all some slack because they're really good people at heart" diatribe.
25
@ 24, some of us can distinguish between the dicks and the ones who keep us safe.
26
You know, it just dawned on me that if something like this ever happened to me and my house (i.e., cops got the wrong house/wrong information, drug dealers picked my house as a drop site for their pot, whatever), my dogs would be totally dead. They are pretty big and would definitely start barking and charging at the door if anyone tried to force their way in (since, obviously, they can't tell the difference between the cops and the robbers). So, yeah. That sucks.
27
@25: Thing is, this is standard procedure. It's not a case of some cops being dicks and some cops keeping us safe, it's a case of all cops being trained to do specifically this. I'll give a "fair enough" to that argument in most cases of police brutality, but this particular problem is system-wide.
28
Wow, I just watched somebody's life get totally fucked in five minutes. Stunning. Any info on how to help the family?
29
Hmmmm.... Matt from Denver, did it ever occur to you that the cops in the video consider _themselves_ to be "the ones who keep us safe"? And that's precisely why they act in such a brutal manner, because they feel they are on the side of Law & Justice?

You certainly can't distinguish between the dicks and the decent ones by their uniform. And if a cop decides to fuck w/ you, what are you gonna do about it? Call another cop?

And what do you seriously think the "ones who keep us safe" are going to do about the actions of these guys? Nothing, that's what. And how does _that_ keep us safe?
30
Rest in peace, my canine friends. You died a hero's death.
31
@ 29, you're too worked up to talk about this rationally. Let it go.
32
No way in the world I'd watch a video like this. 1,000 thanks for the warnings.

I know that the drug war will eventually exhaust itself - but I've been hoping it would happen before America's drug war effort started to resemble Mexico's.
33
@23,

Slog reported on that soon after it happened.

@30,

Just for the record, the corgi was shot but survived.
34
This is atrocious. The "war on drugs" is really a license from the government for police to wage a war on people they don't like (and their poor dogs). There should be random raids on cops houses where civilians shoot their dogs and make them watch. (Okay, okay, violence shouldn't be met with equal violence, but you KNOW that none of those cops will be held accountable for their actions.) Cops disgust me.
35
Only seven?

Must be using revolvers.
36
Poor puppies. Poor people. Goddam stupid fucking drug laws.

38
Definitely can't watch that. I'm pretty upset just reading the description.
39
So I guess Arizona's not the only police state in America.

Sign I-1068. End this fucking madness.
40
@39: Decriminalizing pot isn't going to stop the police from breaking in and shooting you after a bad tip or wrong address about a coke dealer. We need to stop these raids.
41
Crying now.
42
This shit makes my blood boil. No-knock warrants and SWAT raids may be a convenient tool for obtaining evidence in order to prosecute a case, but it does not justify putting human lives in danger. An armed raid in the middle of the night is just asking for someone to get shot. This needs to stop post haste. Until then I may have to handcuff myself to my dog while I sleep.

I live in Columbia, MO. We are enraged. Nothing in memory has brought our community together like this. I have not the time to read all of your comments on this blog, as I have been looking at blogs about our fair community from all over the world..

The history of the video here:
http://www.columbiatribune.com/news/2010…

The video was obtained by our local newspaper who for once, acted like real journalists. The police did not want or ever intend for this video to be seen. I am surprised they didn’t “lose” it.

A good place to get a feel of how Columbians are reacting to this story here, read the comments after this news article:

and the comments after this article. Trouble brewing in our fair town….
