Vashon is in unincorporated King County, completely isolated from the mainland, and it is not uncommon for officers with a history of discipline problems to be sent out there to stay out of the public eye and let off steam. The sheriff's department offers famously little oversight of its Vashon officers. For a little island, it has a history of police brutality that is way off the charts. Everyone on Vashon knows it - keep away from the cops.

O that's funny. 2 Weekends ago I was falsely accused of assaulting an officer because I didn't let him into a house. I told the officer multiple times he couldn't come in and as I closed the door to go get another house member, the officer proceeded to try and push the door open. He then said I assaulted him. I would never assault an officer. I'm glad we have so many of them to protect us.

I need to know the color of Jessica DeWire, Officer Silverstein, Jared Middlecalf and the person who asked the black man to leave before I can form a gut opinion.

The headline totally had me wondering why somebody was after Sue Rahr.

While spotlighting the race of the suspect and ignoring the races of the cop and everyone else, the race of the author is also conspicuously missing from this post. Although we know she likes cupcakes, Davids Sedaris and Mad Men, so I think we can draw our own conclusion.

@6 -- Were you arrested? Or did the police officer accuse you of assaulting you in an attempt to gain entry?

Unless the police officer arrested you and a prosecutor charged you, you weren't accused of anything.

The police are allowed to trick you into letting them into your house. Frazier v. Cupp, 394 U.S. 731 (1969)

Man, KCSD is just one big thug collective, isn't it? Between interfering with critical ass, kicking that girl in custody, putting that guy at the Cinerama in a coma, and this, sounds like a complete bunch of bullies. Too bad that the arrestee had to go ahead and scratch his face. She'll have to make some kind of deal now.

Pardon me, gurldogg, if I throw up at the thought of taking the same side as you for once, since you still think killing cops is the answer to stuff like this.

Jessica is a wonderful, kind, and warm hearted person, as well as an excellent chef. I find it very hard to believe that she would attack anyone, unless in self-defense.

On Friday May 7th at approximately 10:30 p.m., a 5'6" woman allegedly assaulted a King County Sheriff's Deputy while he was arresting a black man for refusing to leave the Sportsman's Inn, a Vashon Island restaurant.


The inclusion of arrested man's race in the lede without any mention of the significance of it or the race of any of the other actors is both weird and telling.

does not apply to my friend. I could tell you all of the wonderful qualities she possesses- but that's not what most of you are here looking for.

It got out of hand. Don't fool yourself- you could be the next very nice person to have such an experience. The media is making this a race case-there are ratings to be had.
Judge all you want- but you're not better or really too different than her or anyone else- it just comforts you to think so.

so, word is that the police officer, struck Jessica between her thighs, with his knee as shown in the photo, over and over and over again and dislocated her hip. And, there is a video of the entire event. Do you realize how much force it takes to dislocate a woman's hip? cleary in the photo, her arms are pinned under her. she weighs 130 pounds, tops. the cop, on top of her, 205-210. so the black man, was bullied in the bar, twice, by local hicks, for acting "gay". Local hicks, beat him in the bar, twice, in the hallway before the Hicks threw him out. People have missed that this was a hate crime. This "gay" black man, was defended by a white "lesbian". Jessica is innocent. after her head hit the concrete, resulting in a traumitic brain injury, after her bones were broken, her hip dislocated and her face smashed into the concrete and after she was maced, after all that torture, broken bones and all that, for nothing but witnessesing anothers torture, the police told her that under the Patriot Act, she had no right to... See More witness this black man's torture and arrest and this cop turned and Prosecuted Jessica, because she scratched him? The press say two cops were surrounded by an angry druken mob, outnumbered, blah blah blah. What if the crowd was right and the cops wrong? Could they have had a reason to rush to Jessica and try to help her? If they tried to help her does that make them wrong? It was just a very years ago that a man was taken from the bar, murdered & his body hung up on a digger! Islanders have every right to check someone's ok.

just because you come from a area with nothing but white people and have no real understanding of how the law works, simply because you have never had to deal with the consequences of you actions being you were able to slide via the white skin way- does not mean you are above the law or exempt from being treated like every other person whos family cant afford a great lawyer. Eventually no matter how white you are you will have to deal with the police not giving you anymore chances- thus you will finally be part of the rest of soceity. Not just some chump poser talking loud about how the goverment or police wrongly accuse people, but surely you dont want to remember that vehicular homicide, hate crime, rape, or violent assult those same cops let you walk on! ressisting arrest means doing anything other than what they commanded you to do. Sorry white kids if you are unaware that real life is not like T.V. and if you were tring to do your job and some crack head bitch scrathed your face up, you would be calling the cops too!? Go white america!
