So he's finally admitting that the church is inherently disordered.
2
Dominic, are you sure he's not talking about American nuns? All those reports of "feminism and activism" have really riled up the Vatican as of late.

I still think the Vatican should be considered a state sponsor of terrorism and treated as such.

If raping children isn't terrorism then what is?

This is not a real apology. If you read between the lines he is reiterating that the only way for salvation is through the church. By accepting the evil as coming from withing he also points out that the solution should come from within. I see this as an allusion to resisting secular justice.

A real apology consists of a minimum of these three points.

1) Admitting what you did was wrong and not someone else's fault.
2) Asking for forgiveness. Not demanding it or offering it to yourself.
3) Offering and following through on attempting to make it right.

The church is doing none of these things correctly. They are continuing to spin the issue as something they alone can solve.

This is worse because its a thin ploy for everyone to drop the matter and tune in to something more dramatic. I wouldn't be surprised if the church starts causing some major explosions somewhere else very soon.

"...the greatest persecution of the church does not come from the enemies outside but is born from the sin in the church."

That statement is an outright lie, for while the basis for the persecution (should be a prosecution by now) of the church is the sin of child rape and conspiracy to hide known child rapists that was born inside the church, all of the meaningful pressure against these horrors have come from outside the church. Hell, if the media had never found out, they never would've changed their playbook one iota, we all know that.

Is the world supposed to see this as some kind of acknowledgement, without saying that the Catholic Church hid and protects child rapists? I wish I had hope that they would forthrightly acknowledge their decisions and choices.

Their present inability to show compassion to the victims and the abusers reveals the emptiness of the faith they espouse. If they really believed that there was eternal life and a hell to spend eternity in, I don't see how they could refrain from seeking justice, how they can have so little compassion for the rapist that they hide. How they could not turn them into the authorities so they could be prosecuted, be punished, and make atonement for raping children before death. And, if they really feared for the eternal souls of the victims, wouldn't they want to protect the victims from further suffering and victimization in this lifetime due to lack of justice, lack of acknowledgement for their suffering and possibly renouncing their faith in God or the church. I just don't see how they would want the world to see that they believe their Savior died on the cross so that they could rape children, hide the rapist and get a free pass into heaven.

Sorry, these come across as pretty empty words; words designed to lull the world into thinking that they are owning their actions, so we all will pat them on their suffering heads. Yuck!*

*Yes, I'm ranting. This makes my blood boil. I'll shut up now.
