Town Hall Seattle rocks. I think giving a great venue for people to get out and listen to intelligent speakers is better than a boat in Tacoma.
2
Post a reminder tomorrow, just in case. Just voted. Fingers crossed.
3
You had me until "Christopher Hitchens."
4
Town Hall Seattle is the sort of facility that makes people in other cities jealous of Seattle. Big name thinkers, doers, dreamers & players pack Town Hall Seattle to the gills all year every year. It's a municipal treasure. I voted, and will vote again tomorrow for sure!
5
I registered as Fnarf.

It doesn't seem to care when you lie to it.
6
Christopher,
I totally recognized Hitchens. I was at that event. I like Town Hall too. Cool.
7
I voted. Please post a reminder tomorrow as well, as it looks like The Adventuress is currently leading.

I guess the angle is by American Express, the corporate sponsor, then? Since the money's being granted regardless, the public-vote angle is solely to increase awareness of American Express itself. At the cost of making worthy recipients participate in the PR and diss their competitors in order to win the one guaranteed slice.

It's a bit ew, no?
9
@8 It's funny - I've been voting every day and never noticed the American Express thing, so I guess it's ignorable (and I'm very unobservant about advertising). Town Hall really needs the money, wherever it comes from.

And they're giving away a Kindle and books and Town Hall tickets if you go back to their site and let them know you voted! :)

I just voted for Washington Hall, not only but mostly to be a crank here.
11
Town Hall is great,,,but also in pretty good condition. I would love to see King Street Station returned to a state that isn't completely embarrassing. Also how cool would it be to maybe get a street level entrance to the upper floors that doesn't require an immediate schlep down some scary stairs. GO TRANSIT RELATED VOTING! (except for that creepy church car...what the hell is that?)

But I've drank a beer near the Adventuress while listening to Soundgarden and gazing at Neil Young's old boat in...Port Townsend, not Tacoma.

Now I'm no Dan Savage, or Christopher Frizzelle, but I do know he difference between Tacoma and Port Townsend. It's kind of like the difference between a Republican and a Democrat...they all move to Port Townsend from Seattle and find it's nothing like Seattle.

Go here, http://www.soundexp.org/
Read, learn, vote for the boat and send me a Slog beer coaster.
13
There are SLOG beer coasters?

No fair .. where are the SLOG hard cider coasters?
14
On May 2 there was cake and a concert by Slender Means for preserving the Mural @ Seattle Center. That got my vote.
15
It would be a shame if Town Hall lost to the boat.

They plan to use the money "to restore and seal the building’s iconic white terra-cotta exterior as well as to repair the prominent stained-glass window on the building’s south side."

Preservation and repair have to come first, of course, but it would be nice if they could add some kind of color to the interior. The space and stained-glass window are nice but otherwise it's visually bland.

The Mural at Seattle Center, on the other hand, is colorful -- and my favorite venue for music at Bumbershoot -- but otherwise it's just never done much for me. I think it would look a lot better if it was flanked by some cool landscaping, and didn't have that hideous amusement building lurking behind it but, still, Horiuchi is no Gaudi or Jujol or Montaner.

Will @13
I think the SLOG hard cider coasters are available over at Krist's place at Seattle Weekly...my beer coaster? I'm guessing I'm SOL, just like the Seattle Town Hall located in beautiful Fife.
17
@11, my sentiments exactly, but after voting once for King Street Station I'm deciding to throw my support to Town Hall, and vote for it tomorrow, since the contest now seems to be between the top two.
18
I vote for Washington Hall, I am not a crank... but very sad... it is not getting the recognition it needs. Vote Washington Hall!
19
The great thing about Adventuress is that she's not only a beautiful historic treasure, but she's also mobile! Although the organization that runs her (Sound Experience) is based in Port Townsend, the ships sails throughout the Puget Sound, from Olympia to Bellingham, and has spent the last week hosting sails out of Elliott Bay Marina right here in Seattle. Adventuress may not have well-known speakers, but she offers a wonderful interactive way to experience the Puget Sound that surrounds us. Vote Washington Hall!

How about accuracy in reporting errr....blogging? The Boat is a hundred year old Schooner BASED in Seattle *ahem* that takes children from underprivileged families and introduces them to nature.

Why don't you do some research and then come back and tell us that this purpose is less noble than bringing famous people to come and speak to wealthy people who really could be paying to help fix a window by themselves anyway?

Shame on you for distorting the facts. And how disappointing that The Stranger publishes such garbage.
22
Vote for the Boat. Don't listen to the distortions above. It's based in Seattle and introduces children from disadvantaged children to nature. What does Town Hall do? Brings famous people to speak to wealthy people? What do they do for children? And how does fixing a window help anyway?
23
> What does Town Hall do? Brings famous people to speak to wealthy people?

Clearly Atliens6 knows shit about fuck.

Please wait...
