I voted!

I voted for the boat again! Good reminder Paul!
3
I would much rather see King Street Station redone! Town Hall is awesome, but also seems to be in decent shape. King Street is an embarrassment. FIX IT UP!
4
Folks, the contest ends today. It's either going to be Town Hall or the boat. Go vote for Town Hall!!!
5
I like the Washington Hall project... seems like the best use of the money. Wish they made a better push.

Don't get me wrong, I love Town Hall (Joshua Roman is my idea of ten kinds of yummy genius), but they've got the ability to hit up their urban patrons and sponsors better than the Adventuress people. I know Town Hall chooses not to do such a hard-sell for reasons of taste, but if push comes to shove they can. The boat people, I'm not so sure, so going with them.

But either way, bear in mind all the nominees were picked because they were solid orgs.

Bad form to respond from the inside on a thread like this, but here goes...

Don't overestimate TH's resources (8 full timers, a dozen great part timers on events and 50 or so awesome volunteers) made 340 things happen in this building for 100,000 people last year, on a budget well south of $1 million. We're stable--but we're a decidedly small organization.

And don't UNDERestimate the resources of that Schooner, Gloomy. They may seem all plucky and breezy and nautical, but they play tough! (You either, Lens1)...

In sum, if we get this money you will see the impact in the next three months--if we don't, we've got some real scrambling to do to shore up this building for next season...

Rookie mistake--I corrected, and somehow it didn't go--I meant to say "By most standards" we're considered a small organization... There're smaller, to be sure--but believe me we get by on resourcefulness, not because of a deep Rolodex.

I also tried to call out the 'impact'--windows not crashed to ground, walls no longer limey and leaking...

@7and8, you and TH are awesome. No argument. But whoever does your development needs to act like they know it too and hit hard on the deep pockets who adore your programming and mission. It is absurd, completely absurd, that your org can't find a way to get at the plenty-o'-disposable-income tastemakers who often show at your events, without abandoning your laid-back charm.

Adventuress brings 3,000 kids a year sailing. Empty-wallet kids. Just saying.

@7 I can honestly say I'm no insider. I've been accused of being an outsider before, but that has no bearing, nor dead reckoning on navigating this vessel through the cosmos.

But plucky, breezy and nautical? I'm not sure if I should be offended, or just go stare at Death Cab for Cutie at the Town Hall. In Fife.

@9 Empty-wallet kids...spot on...

Adventuress is one of the last of her kind in this region. She's beautiful, and her foundation, unlike most maritime foundations in this area, has done a great job giving her an ongoing mission and keeping her afloat.

I love Town Hall, too, but Adventuress has a special place in my heart.

@10 "Plucky breezy and nautical" was not intended to offend anybody--seems like Gus got that, so I'm holding myself harmless.

Gonna check out now--in truth all the sites are pretty fantastic (@5 Washington Hall is going to be amazing when it comes online)...

A list of TH's own extensive stuff for kids/families is for another time... Whatever motivates your vote--or floats your boat--thanks for caring enough to engage with this campaign...

@12, no worries - I meant no diss on TH ever, just needed to sprinkle pee on the assumption in the last couple days' posts that it's cute to pump up TH (to whose events Stranger staffers can walk, and at which they can drink) by ignoring or belittling the Adventuress. Appreciate your open mind, and again, I'm very grateful you guys keep Town Hall up and running.
14
I too shall hold myself harmless, as real offense was not taken.
Tongue in cheek offense and or tongue in semi-inappropriate places may have happened.

Anytime Death Cab is mentioned, anywhere, tongue in cheek should be advised.

Good luck to the boat, good luck to Town Hall.

Adventuress won, but Partners in Preservation decided that since the vote was so close, Town Hall would ALSO receive $125,000! Total win for both! This makes my day.
16
Me too, Geni. This was the best news I received all day.

Please wait...
