@4, read it like a game score.
@3, Terrence Howard being replaced by Don Cheadle is as explicable a casting move as I have ever heard of. I'm a little sad Cheadle took it, but I'm sure he has a mortgage.
#5 - It's not clear to me how Cheadle is in any way a value-add to a Robert Downy Jr. action romp (romp?). What am I missing? Are they looking to score with retirees who normally think these movies are too loud and violent, but hoping the Golden Girls connection will have enough pull to get'em into seats?
Cheadle's said he wasn't approached until after Howard was already off it, and I've read it was a combo of personality and asking for a lot more money that got Mr. "Fresh Down There" released.
#9 - Ahhhh... if that's what #5 was eluding too, I'd like to apologize, but can't because when the hell else am I going to get to make a Golden Towers reference?
The main thing is that Iron Man has a black sidekick. Who cares which sassy black comedian you get -- there's one thing you need him to be, and that's black. Sidekick? Check. BLACK? Check.
There's something special that comes from a flawed white protagonist having a black sidekick to act as counterpoint to his flawed whiteness and hero-ness. It's like, yeah, he's an arrogant dick. Yeah, he's reckless. Yeah, he's cocky. Yeah, he's... you get the idea. But you know the ONE thing he's not? Have you forgotten? Here, sidekick just walked on to remind you of the one thing our flawed hero is not: He's not fucking BLACK. That's what he's not and so yeah, he's a fuckup but he's a WHITE fuckup.
Holy crap I just deconstructed all Hollywood. I could write for the movies now.
Samuel Jackson talked about the departure of Terrence Howard, who failed to come to an agreement with Marvel and was replaced by Don Cheadle in the sequel to "Iron Man". Jackson speculates that Howard, "left $30-40 million on the table" and says that the character War Machine "is gonna show up a lot."
Supposedly Howard was the first person cast for the first movie, and managed to get an absurdly huge paycheck out of it. Then he pretty much phoned in his parts and had to do a ton of reshoots. When he asked for more money to do the sequel, the producers told him to go screw.
For the confused: Terrence Howard was inexplicably replaced by Don Cheadle in the sequel.

Also Wm. Steven, a "slow clap" is usually sarcastic, isn't it? Meaning that the thing is not deserving applause.

take that, you handsome-eyed devil.
Wm., what was your view on the whole "better than the holocaust" guild marquee incident?
Howard - 0
Cheadle - 1
the follow-up interview is even creepier--I can't seem to find it right now, though.
