They should put them on buses, too, and at banks, and airports, and whatever the Argentine analog of the DMV is.

Something as immediately accessible as Jorge Luis Borges should definately get those adverse to reading to buy books again.

@3: Seconded. Borges was brilliant, but his writing is the kind of art that confuses the hell out of you in the process of being enjoyed. His stories are best left to bibliophiles.

Didn't the Argentines do this about 5-10 years ago? Leaving books on their metro system in order to encourage reading and discourage youthful hooliganry? Or maybe it was DF?

I wonder what percentage of Americans buy and read books. It's probably not much different.
