Haven't gotten it yet, but working on it! It does look great. And... POSSES! Re: Red Dead, PA was particularly funny today: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/5…

I picked up my copy last night, I thought about calling in sick to play it today.

IMO, the only video game worth playing right now is Demon's Souls, which you can't play on an Xbox.

@4 I found Demon's Souls to be one of the worst games. It narrative is barely existant and it gets its challenge simply from "jigs up" puzzles. This is the kind of puzzle where you have no real indication as to the right answer and the wrong choice ends it. It reminds me of that Kids In The Hall sketch where Bruce just runs at a guy over and over constantly failing to get in a single punch until the dude with an extended fist gets bored.

As for its RPG elements, you aren't allowed to level up until you defeat the first mind-numbing level, which means no chance to get any advantage on the CPU. You can't sell items to the shops, you can only buy em. And there is no character-development. It's only saving grace is its multiplayer mode but that isn't enough to pull it from the rest of the train-wreck.

As a formerly avid PC game player from the years 1995 to about 2003-ish, I am surprised at how this game trailer looked, sounded, and was obviously meant to be identical to a movie trailer.

I assume this is the prevailing trend these days? For "hardcore gamers," I mean.

This game looks great. I've been biding my time with Toy Soldiers from XBLA lately.

#8 it may have been around longer, but Left 4 Dead popularized the "video game as a move" concept.

@5,
Demon's Souls has been described as brutal game, and it is. It doesn't have difficulty settings because there is only one: Insane. It requires strategy and planning and it refrains from holding your hand or making it easy to progress through the levels. So much the better. I am tired of the re-hashes, sequels and dumb-downed games being created now for a bigger audience. D'sS is not for everyone, and that's fine with me.

Please wait...
