Evil? Really? How about we declare war on "people who don't disclose"? SHould we include people who don't disclose other stds as well and call it an "axis of evil"?

Sounds like a kid that made some bad decisions and who will be punished, but I don't think from the article he comes off as "fucking evil".
3
If we can define 'evil' as something that knowingly and explicitly harms others for self gain, then yes, this is Fucking Evil.
4
@2: really? i'm fine if you don't disclose when no one is asking and you aren't having sex with anyone, but if you're HIV positive, know it, and continue to have unprotected sex with other men, that's pretty evil.
5
Great headline! Awfully sorry for the 22yo kid's sex partners, paid up or not. When I was that age, fucking people that age as well as older showed me how relatively shallow, vain and morally blinkered we younger ones were, and put me on my guard, in a good way.

Holy mackerel, the photo KOMO uses is hee-larious.
6
Evil, to me, is when someone does something that it is unthinkable to me. Sorry but ,while i don't condone this, I get it. Sex is complicated and is not as easy as "just Say no" moralizing slogans. The guy is selfish and desperate, possibly addicted and a dirtbag, but evil I'll save for Charles Manson
7
Does this mean we can call the police on every person we know on Adam4Adam and Manhunt who is HIV positive but doesn't disclose it? Well then that would mean half of Seattle would be in jail...

The article is sensationalist bullshit...
8
You can argue semantics about the word 'evil', but it's the equivalent of randomly spraying a crowd with bullets from your semiautomatic weapon. Most of the rounds do no damage, so it's just innocent fun, I guess?
9
Funny how some people with HIV think that they are in a special superclass of humans when in fact they're just willfully diseased. I don't let people drink from my glass when I have a cold. Why do these people think it's okay to fuck people when they have HIV?
10
Guess what, you play with fire, ya gonna get burned.
11
Its fucking stupid and fucking careless to have unprotected unsafe sex with a sex worker.
12
So, yeah, I hesitate to call his actions "evil" although I am definitely outraged on a number of different levels.

First, sure, prostitution is illegal in this state. It's stupid, but that's how the law works. Sadly, because of this law many people (both patrons and sex-workers themselves) are putting themselves at risk for something that can be regulated and controlled with mandatory testing which would reduce risks.

Secondly, non-disclosure of HIV or other infectious disease status in the state of Washington is illegal and, rightfully so, should land one in jail for a very long time especially considering how many others can be infected and not know it.

This guy definitely is not only putting his clients at risk but also the greater community. I say,"Jail 'em"
13
@9 Willfully diseased, huh? Yes, everyone with HIV/AIDS ever went out and deliberately got it. Ryan White sure asked for it, for starters. Serves him right, eh?

Point one: If you're going to have unprotected gay sex with anyone, just plain assume they're HIV+. They don't even have to be lying to you...lots of guys do not know their status and may have HIV when they honestly think they don't. If someone's having bareback sex with guys they meet online, sooner or later he's going to seroconvert. Period.

Point two: If you are HIV+, you don't need to disclose to everyone (people at work, for instance, do not need to know). But if you're on hookup sites like Manhunt or whatever, then it's my opinion that you should always disclose, even if you have safer sex.

Just put it in your profile. That way you'll never even hear from guys who are uncomfortable with it.

Point three: Lots of HIV+ guys I know flat-out refuse to have sex of any kind with anyone who isn't also HIV+. That's a responsible policy (which happens to be my own).

However, I also think it's OK if a guy who doesn't have HIV (as far as he knows) gets to decide what level of risk he's comfortable with, as long as he's fully aware of your status. At least as long as he's capable of making a responsible decision (in other words he's not drunk, high or otherwise impaired or pressured to get into something he might not be comfortable with).

But if you want to make that your policy, I'd suggest you have a written record showing that he knew your status and wanted to have sex anyway. In other words, save that email.

Some HIV+ men will just always practice safer sex, but may not necessarily disclose their status. Personally, I view that as not necessarily evil, but it's not exactly responsible either; there is still a risk of infection, however diminished.

Personally, I've found that being HIV+ has brought both good and bad things to my life. One thing that can be difficult but ultimately good is the way you're obliged to examine your personal morals.
15
Speaking of evil, what happens in Lakewood stays in Lakewood. Shudder.
16
@8: My god that was idiotic. Like spraying a crowd with bullets. Maybe, if the crowd was told that they were going to be shot at and no one knew if there was live ammo or blanks in the gun and some decided to stay anyway and pay for the privilege, then yes it is exactly like that. Fucking moron.

@11: exactly. Take responsibility for your own health or get infected. End of discussion.

Oh wait, that's right, the whore lied. If I can't trust a 22yo whore that I met online, who can I trust?
17
About as evil as someone who drives drunk. They are selfishly risking other's lives, but likely have no overt desire to harm them. Wrong, but pretty mild on the evil scale.
18
@12: No, not driving drunk. Drunk drivers kill people who didn't agree to engage in extraordinarily dangerous behavior with them. These men are not innocent victims, they are people who chose to have unprotected sex with a whore they met online 20+ years after we learned how HiV is spread and how best to protect yourself against it.

ANY comparison to innocent bystanders or unwitting victims is the height of fucking stupidity.
19
@18,

What if the drunk driver kills someone riding in the car with him? What if the drunk driver swears up and down to his passengers that he's not drunk?
20
@19,

What if the drunk driver is a nasty old 50-something drag queen (MMF) who tries to hook up with young men on Manhunt and Adam4Adam, etc, and never discloses their HIV status and lies and says their 29?

That is what Fukcing EVIL is...
21
@18 So the fact that his partners were willing to engage in unsafe sex absolves him of responsiblity? I don't agree with that. Sounds like a rationalization.

His behavior was clearly wrong, but it was just garden variety selfishness that is fairly common. Not really evil in my mind. Pretty much what I think about people who drive drunk. The fact that his partners should have known better is beside the point and doesn't really change that much for me.
22
Shut up everybody, Shut up Lutz.

Can we talk about the real issue? What is up with those comments on KOMO's page? I like how the moderator bans bad comments but doesn't bad the serious trolls lurking there.
23
business as usual-
just another day in the Qunited States of Gaymerica
24
That's how I'm going to plead it to the judge: "I was... embarrassed about that loaded gun I was waving around at the mall. Oops."
25
People lie about what they eat. People lie about their weight when you can obviously see their cankles. Who trusts the word of a 22 year old stranger when negotiating to let him navigate his love train into their man tunnel.

People are idiots if they have unprotected sex and assume the other person has the HIV no matter what they say. Oops! You gave me the AIDS, darn you!

The media, KOMO in this case, makes no mention that the people who had sex with this kid are ass hats for playing roulette with their poopers.

The thing that surprises me the most is that this storyline is newsworthy still. Every day people hook up and lie about their status. The only aspect that differentiates this is that it was a commercial transaction.
26
Fuck this guy. He was embarrassed ? Please, he was selfish and stupid and FUCKING psychotic. I hope nothing but the worst for him. I recently found out I am HIV+ and though not exactly the same situation as this one, it was in the same ball park. Yeah, It's embarrassing, you get nervous, your self esteem evaporates.... but you man up and tell the people that need to know. I had to tell my ex-partner of 5 years, he was at risk (luckily he is fine), hook-ups, some people i didn't even know their names, but I did.... because it's what you do, what any rational person with fuck soul would do.

It's sad. It really bothers me that the young gay men are oblivious or turn a blind eye on this HORRIBLE but manageable disease.

I'm 24 and was oblivious as well, I didn't see the the death of the 80's and 90's...HIV became taboo and this only affected old men or druggies....".MSM is the only risk group in the U.S. in which new HIV infections are increasing. While new infections have
declined among both heterosexuals and injection drug users, the annual number of new HIV infections among MSM
has been steadily increasing since the early 1990s." This statistic came from the 2009 CDC HIV/AID Men having Sex with Men fact sheet.....

Wow, I went on rant. That story just infuriates me. Hope he goes to jail for a long time.
27
I can understand not disclosing, or not using condoms. But not both.
