I especially enjoy watching the Mayor's Press Briefings, and watching the lackeys of the Suburban Times leave in a huff when their masters at Fox News have been routed yet again, while everybody else in the media continues discussing the news.

Those are fun to watch.

I love Seattle Channel!
I usually have it on in the background while doing things around the house, and former roommates always comment on how CR Douglas really doesn't pull punches. If only all journalists could be so committed to getting real answers. Also, City Stream is a neat show about the happenings of our town.

Surprisingly, the Community College channel can be highly entertaining for old timey education programs.

So, basically the city-owned government affairs channel is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing - reporting on local government affairs, which is all well-and-good.

But let's put this in a little context: Seattle Channel took 4 out of 74 categories. Meanwhile, "network affiliate stations" took home a combined 48 Emmys (considerably more than the "several" you imply) in categories such as consumer, health and science, environmental, military, community service, historical/cultural, investigative and breaking news reporting, among numerous others, while the remainder were scattered among (depending on category) several public and non-affiliated stations, ad agencies and independent producers.

So, really, congrats to The Seattle Channel for their awards, but let's not slight the network affiliates, who clearly dominated - as they usually do.

Hear, hear, Dominic! I used to love to curl up in bed on a Sunday morning/afternoon and watch the Seattle Channel. I say "used" because I'm condemned to Southern California for the next few months. I think the Seattle Channel is better than CSPAN (another weekend favorite) in a lot of ways.

I'm sure they appreciate the plug and the Emmys.

Where/how can one access a schedule for Seattle Channel programming? Yes, I see it when channel surfing, and sometimes I stop and listen. But if it's as great as you are suggesting (and I expect you are correct), then it should be "appointment TV." So, where's the schedule of programs?

@5, everything is here online. Truly a lovely resource.

Plus, they do polls.

Polls that show Seattle really does want to do what we do want to do.

Big fan, last Summer/Fall I watched wayyyyyy too much Seattle Channel clips of candidates, and TVW Inside Olympia, Austin Jenkins interviewing Frank Chopp was pretty good.

The one good thing I watched on county tv was when they failed to fill the 9th seat before the holiday break. It was a pathetic scramble by desperate politicos.

@4, video podcast through iTunes

You should note also that the Seattle Channel has a much bigger budget that King County Television to create original programming.

It annoys the hell out of me that the Seattle Channel is cable-only. Can't the city get an ultra-cheap low-power TV license for municipal use or something?

Please wait...
