Eh? Could at least be the picture of a sweaty *male* tennis player. I thought this was a Charles post for a sec, didn't think that could be right.

Damn! And I thought last year's Wimbledon men's final was a long game!

I think part of the problem is the grass surface. As technology gets better and athletes get stronger, their serves become ridiculously fast. 90 aces? Jesus! I can't see a drawn out match like this happening at Roland Garros or any other clay court. Maybe Wimbledon should consider changing to a hard surface?

Who says it's a problem? I think it's awesome

Why can't anyone at the Stranger blog like that?!?!?!
5
The BEST piece of live blogging, ever. I actually laughed out loud, several times. I have saved a PDF of the printable version to send to my tennis-playing writer son. Thanks for the link!

I think you got the time switched around. At the 4:05pm entry, they were at 18-all, and at the 7:30 pm entry, they're at 46-all.

Of course, every time I think I understand tennis, I'm wrong.

small note: the "later" snip of the post was actually "earlier". 7:30pm/7:20pm/4:05 pm.

awesome live blog + sports writing.

@3,
Incredible serves are ok, but nothing beats a spectacular volley, especially up at the net.

"The score stands at 34-34. In order to stay upright and keep their strength, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut have now started eating members of the audience. They trudge back to the baseline, gnawing on thigh-bones and sucking intestines. They have decided that they will stay on Court 18 until every spectator is eaten. Only then, they say, will they consider ending their contest."

Seriously, can the Stranger hire this Guardian blogger please?
11
Anybody who'd leave the Guardian for the Stranger couldn't be worth hiring, though.
12
I'm sure he's way out of their price range, leek.

the undead have risen again - now at 68-68.

Please wait...
