And about that old bag 90 year old owner, bet it's Groucho's wife. She can go burn in hell with Groucho. Maybe when she finally dies I can bust in and get my dad's coin collection back (which I sold when I was 4 for penny candy).

WOW!!!! My only complaint about that place was when I lived on 15th was it was a little out of sight out of mind to go there.

I am a former neighbor and that restaurant is a nuisance to the area. The owner is not willing at all to work with anyone on the constant noise from people going in and out as well as the broken glass and rotting food in the back alley. It is nice for anyone more than a block away to come visit but for those people close by it turned a very quiet block into a bustling area.

People moved there because it is zoned for a quiet place to live. Noisy business needs to stay out.

Man, I hate NIMBYs, especially those trying suburbanize, um, urbia.

That said, I jog by the VPC fairly frequently, and their garbage is poorly contained and always stinks. That's a pretty easy (and obvious) problem to solve. If that's any indicator of the kind of neighbor they are generally, I might have some sympathy for the NIMBYs for once...

If the cafe is out of compliance with the zoning - regardless what's been there before - then they are in the wrong here. Sure, it sounds like no one in the City or the neighborhood bothered to check for a few decades, but that just means that people got lucky up to now and weren't caught. It doesn't really matter if the complaint to the City was motivated by someone unhappy with the business expansion - if the place was properly zoned he'd have had no leverage.

Didn't this happen with CHAC a couple of years ago?

Really though, the owners of the cafe should be fined just for that pathetic letter. They sound like 12 year old girls. "OMG! Everyone LOVES us except this one guy, cuz he's, like, so meeeeeeeeeeeeeeean!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!ponies!!!!!!!!"
