Um, even if it's true that <2% of all child molestation cases are committed by the clergy, that's still a shockingly high number, considering that priests make up only 0.01% of the US population.

It's hard on those Catholics when they can't burn you at the stake anymore.

Catholics don't believe in math, either. It's too much like science.

@1, no kidding. 2% of the US population is 6 million; there are a bit over 40,000 priests in the US. And the percentage of clergy who've been accused is more like 4%. 12,000,000 versus 40,000 means priests are 300 times more likely to molest than non-priests. Ouch. Not a number I'd be drawing attention to if I worked for the church.

"I'd rather see $1.3 million go to rentboys in New York City than the Pope in Rome"

Now THAT I'll agree with you on, Dan.

I wonder what the annual rentboy revenue is for NYC. Could be close to that.

@4: In (slight) defense of the priests here, by definition, they're all male, and while female pedos exist, women abuse at a much lower rate. Perhaps the relevant comparison is something more like "150x more likely to abuse than a male non-priest."

@Dan: Well, I'd much rather see a priest pay $1.3 million to fuck rent boys than fuck kids and spend $1.3 million buying silence.

I always find it interesting that the Pope denounces homosexuals from a window in the Vatican and behind him is a well-lit image of Christ's abs. The Church is, I believe, so threatened by same-sex relations between intelligent and non-abused gay people that it actively promotes its child-molesting priests and sends them on to other parishes to continue their child molestations. The more priests like this guy who are outed as homosexuals the better this grand hypocrisy is exposed.

Please wait...
