Ooh, I might have to come for that. Perhaps I can avenge my undeserved loss in the eighth grade, when I was struck out on "besmirched" even though I spelled it correctly, as the pinhead judge admitted immediately afterwards. "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do". A lifetime later and it still burns.
2
PS: if I could spell "Spangenthal-Lee", I think I can cope with "Grandy".
3
Damn, wish I weren't getting my hair cut. I must commend the misspelling of "Star Anna" in the post, though... well played.
4
That's Brandy, Fnarf.

If you can't spell the names of your liquor, we'll have to cut you off.
5
Is Sole Repair air conditioned?
6
@3 That's my fault. Fixed! (Obviously I will NOT be participating in the bee.)
7
Look, everybody, Will @4 made a joke! It didn't make a lick of sense, as usual, but he gets points for trying, doesn't he? No? Oh well.

Fuck off, Will.
8
@5 I'm told that it DOES have AC! Hooray!
9
this is weird, because i'm pretty sure that bryan glynn and i run the drunken spelling bee at linda's, and i have no idea who peter lowe is. like, i literally just hosted it last night. with bryan. and no one named peter.

i've only been on the scene for three bees at linda's, so . . . did he used to run it, maybe? out-of-date info?
10
i used to run it/helped start it. ask bryan.
11
i don't need to ask bryan--i believe you. it was just alarming when three people sent me this link in the space of five minutes.
12
TIME TO AVENGE THAT RUNNERUP BULLSHIT I GOT IN 4TH GRADE! I'M YELLING AND I DON"T KNOW WHY!!!!
13
4th grade revenge!!

Wow, how many of us were runners up to a spelling bee in elementary school? And why does it haunt our dreams to this day?
14
Actually, I won the ones I entered.

Remember, don't spell it Brandi.

And no fair using Australian words.
15
@9 I have changed the language of the post so it is less confusing. Apologies for the misinformation.
16
thanks, megan. i'm sorry if this comes off as petty--we just work really hard on that show, and it was jarring and kind of creepy to see someone else being credited.

anyway, i'll be at this bee, for sure.
17
"if"?
18
i'm excited! we never had any spelling bees in school (at least, that i was aware of) but i've always had it in my head that i would do well. now to practice--

R-I-Y-A B-H-A-T-T-A-C-H-A-R-J-E-E

M-A-D-R-A-S-S-A ... now we've been schooled.

Good thing we're not bylining what Megan's selling.

6th grade - the teacher giving us the words mispronounced my word: she said "mischievious" when the word is actually "mischievous." I spelled it the way she said it, with that extra "i," because I didn't remember that "i" being there but thought I must be wrong because she was a TEACHER... and I was eliminated. I think I came in 6th. I've forgotten her name, but the little piece of my soul she crushed that day has not forgiven her.
21
Bitches, I won in 5th grade. Y'all are going down.
22
Ironic that this particular venue was chosen to host the SLOG Spelling Bee...
23
So, is it really going to be held at something called 'vitaminwater social club'? I mean, I see the big display ad they bought on slog today, but really?
24
They could call it Super Happy Fun Time ....
25
Um Will, I think that name has already been claimed by the speakeasy all-ages rock club downstairs from my theatre...

Please wait...
