Yaay!
2
Sad. . . a theme park/hipster joint. Typical.
3
If Vito's turns into a hipster joint, it will no longer be Vito's.
4
@elaineinballard: Vito's cannot be replaced, it was it's own. . .Turning it into a tourist attraction under the guise of "total restoration" is just sad and wrong. Total restoration=hipster remodel.

Vito's is dead.

I agree with #3 but if it's the good old low lights, good food and great place for a drink it used to be then I can't wait... Dear god I missed the cioppino there.
6
@2, @3, @4: So you folks would prefer a non-existant "authentic" Vito's over a remodeled itieration that's actually open?
7
Disparaging a renovation for its inauthenticity is something only a hipster would do.
8
Vito's is dead.

Long live Vito's!

Lundgren and friends are awesome and do real, original and creative work... they are the antithesis of hipsterdom. Fear not, I'm sure this revived Vito's will be awesome.

I used to go there after work for drinks and it wasn't awesome (early 2000's) but I could see the potential. I'm curious if they kept the big-ass urinals and will keep icing them.

Disney can't recreate "Shelly’s Leg" either.

There's no point other than a brand name to mask this as anything other than a brand.

I'm far more concerned about the Buckaroo closing and moving to Downtown Fremont - the increasingly vibrant economic engine of Seattle.

damn this is bringing the city to a new level. or back to the mysterious greatness of the alibi when it first opened.

Loved working downtown in red suspenders and Italian suits back in the mid-80s - Vito's and Rosselini's Place and The Other Place and closings at Il Bistro. I'm glad someone is at least trying to recapture some of that vibe. It won't be authentic, but I'm OK with what appears to be a respectful attempt.....

I spent a considerable amount of time at Vito's from 1988 until 1993, when Vito sold the joint and the new owners started ruining it. The tall tales you hear are true, the history is delightful.

Only bar I've been served after hours while hanging out with a pair of retired cops, only place I've witnessed cab drivers slide off their stools and weave toward the door to pick up a fare. The cannelloni WAS all that, and the drinks were more than generous. Vito's was a cornerstone of my early 20's. I still miss it.

My mother's water broke -- with me -- in the Vito's women's bathroom. June, 1984.

It was good - then not so good - hope it opens good again!

Before I go back to Vito's I need to know that they new owners are not even remotely associated with the last punk-ass owners.

Please wait...
