I think Switzerland, which still has Christ knows how much Nazi shit in their vaults, will always be "the last holdout". They've been coasting on that completely bogus "oh, yeah, neutral, we're, uh, neutral" rep for decades. How many gold teeth are you still holding, Switzerland?

That said, I'm just a tad uncomfortable with "returning" things to the grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the people they were stolen from. Just because your grandparents suffered doesn't mean you deserve massive wealth you yourself didn't earn. These paintings should be in museums, taken as estate tax.

The Irony is that many Jews died and no death certificate were issued because Jews were killed by the millions. So heirs could not collect insurance or deposits that were held by the Swiss banks.

On the flip side of that coin. Israel basically annexes or steals land from Arab/Palestinians living in West Bank or inside Israel. Property thats been in the family for 100s of years, taken away because the family has no legal deed to the land, even if the Ottoman Empire recognized the true owner of the land and documented it, Israel doesn't recognize this and takes the land in the name of security.

Another example are the dead sea scrolls, originally found in what was then Trans-Jordan, once Israel annex the west bank, they took ownership of some of the documents (Rest were purchased illegally). Jordon wants these documents back, but never will because to the victors go the spoils of war! Which is EXACTLY what has happened to this collection of artwork. So as long as Hungary can defend itself, the art will stay put.

I know Jews are not Israelis, but given the many many times I have been accused of racism for not agreeing with Zionism policy, they'll get their wish and many a world government will see this hypocrisy and refuse to give back what was essentially the spoils of war.

Please wait...
