Gawd, I would LOVE to be an HR person about six months from now, when these nutjobs' resumes start showing up with "Graduate, Beck University 2010" on the "Education" line...
"To hear him tell it, the Canadian basically renounces single-payer health care on the spot as a horrible evil when she discovers she's paying for it out of her taxes,"
That kind of storytelling is straight out of a Jack Chick tract.
I find it typical on the "16 of 20 years, the government operated at a loss" that he didn't go back 30 years and find out which president presided over the start of the era of large government debt. I guess it doesn't fit into the Right's "Reagan was God" narrative.
"Kickboxing the wind" is such the perfect phrase for trying to debate or rationally discuss so much of the right's (particularly folks like the Tea Partiers and birthers) positions.
@4: I haven't asked questions yet—the chatroom is heavily edited—but I've voted in the polls. I think the next Buckner class might find me trying to get a question through, though, out of pure frustration.
Running the government like a corporation sounds startlingly close to another form of government. How do these people not get that such a government is antithetical to the interests of its citizens?
Oh my god, make it stop. Do these people think government should operate at a PROFIT? They should make a profit off ME? And do what with it, precisely?
If we run the government for profit, we can afford to build a larger military which can be used to revitalize national growth and give the master race more living room.
samktg means fascism, but what's really weird is that the description of "running government as a corporation" is, when you get down to it, communism, at least as it was done in the USSR. The fuckers at the top of that scheme RAN THE GOV'T LIKE A CORPORATION.
But Beck hates communism. ish.
What Buckner and Beck really hate is capitalism that has veered to far from having a built-in advantage for third-generation white males.
