How bad could it possibly be? I thought.. and then I clicked through to the "highest resolution version of this photo (print ready)"
http://uwnews.org/images/newsreleases/20…

Holy fucking hell...
2
Wow, Maggie - stereotype much?
3
yes, because this city is so racist they'll do anything to protect rapist coke dealing white boys. try worrying about something that might actually happen.
4
This is almost as crappy as the "art project" in Ballard whereby some nice ladies clipped a bunch of crap to the chain link fence around the lot where Sunset Bowl used to be: http://onthefence2010.blogspot.com/

Yeah, that was pretty low of me. Sorry white frat boys!
Here's an article with a local bent you might not have caught a couple years ago.
“These things happened at fraternities, nothing would probably come out of it.”

What makes it "not art"?
7
What makes it "not even art"?

I have an idea! Let's get a bunch of fiberglass animals - something cute, like a beaver or a sasquatch - and then have local businesses pay to decorate them. We can scatter them throughout the U-District, and All Will Be Amazed at our whimsy! We're whimsical, GODDAMMIT.
9
Yeah, the design mock-up makes the project look like a public service announcement, but I have to admit that I think the idea is pretty cool. Faces are always interesting, and I like that the images can be switched out. Does that make me a Philistine?
10
This is going to be great when it's tagged.

....

You did realize that was going to happen, right?

i think the arts comission would probably remove the portrait of a serial date rapist from the artwork, EVEN IF HE WAS A WHITE FRATERNITY MEMBER. the cops might even help. i'm that naive.
12
Wow, I guess I don't think it's that bad of an idea, and who's calling it art? I don't think Sound Transit or the U is....Why does it have to be art? Seems like it's being approached as more of a community project. I guess I'd rather suspend my criticism until I actually see how it works/turns out before I talk about how awful it is.
13
@10, if you would read the article, which you didn't, because you cannot read, you would have noticed that the thing is made from grafitti-resistant materials, and paint runs right off it.
14
Just so we're clear: would it be okay to include pictures of black frat boys on the wall?

@14, the UW is a white-only school, isn't it?
16
@13 acid knows no bounds. And neither does permabond adhesive.
17
Wow. Half the shit that modern 'artists' make is barely art in my awesomely critical view. But if somebody made it, its art, one deal. Don't complain, don't deny; just numbly smile and nod your head as you walk away.

Please wait...
