"Spurred by the looming energy crisis, Nathan Lewis and Sossina Haile are working to invent a new kind of fuel that uses the sun to power the planet. They are attempting to produce a prototype for a truly alternative fuel source — an artificial leaf that emulates natural photosynthesis, converting solar energy into a usable, clean chemical fuel. They hope their pioneering solar cell and fuel cell technologies will eventually end our dependence on petroleum and provide an energy source that won’t pollute our planet."
C HEERS: To Zlainey Stokes, an 11-year-old from West Philadelphia who, for years, has endured bullying at the hands of classmates first at Belmont Academy Charter School and then at her current school, Our Mother of Sorrows, in West Philadelphia. She's been teased, went hungry from having her lunch stolen day after day and watched her friends be derided and called "gay."
Finally, after reading about a teenager who was bullied and killed herself, Zlainey decided to tell someone what was happening to her. She reached out to a higher authority -- President Barack Obama. She wrote him a letter about what she's endured. And even though the president gets about 65,000 letters a week, he responded personally to Zlainey.
