Dan, for what it's worth, I want you to know that I've been using these entries and the Youth Pastor Watch entries to convince the folks at my church that we have to be more dilligent in setting rules and doing background checks on people who work with children and youth. They think th state police background checks (which only check records in Louisiana) are enough despite the fact that 75% of our congregation is originally from another state. They think we don't need rules like leaving classroom doors and window blinds open, making sure that there is never a single adult alone in a room, a car or a building with one or more children, making sure that there are multiple adults present for off-campus activities, etc. They think that because we are a church, everyone there should be better than that.

But churchy people are, ultimately, just like everyone else - there a lot of good ones, some not-so-go ones, and a few who are absolutely evil. We need to make sure that the ones who fall into that last category are never allowed access to our children.
