I wouldn't let her suck my dick, but she certainly can kiss my ass.

You can talk about witholding funds from Dem candidates because they haven't aggressively come through for you yet, but just remember - if you sit on the sidelines, you're going to end up with "leaders" supported by Karl Frickin Rove who are ACTIVELY trying to put you and your issues back in the corner, or worse. And they will wear this position as a badge of honor.
3
Dan, I think you mean "may" , not "can", as in "Mary Cheney May Suck My Dick".
4
This is what Republicans do. They find someone from a minority, do a quid pro quo deal. And then exploit them to work against the interests of their own people. Evil Machiavellian politics!
5
Mary Cheney's penance will have to be that, no matter what she does, she still looks like her father in drag.
6
Nah, Mary Cheney can't suck my dick. Take note, Sloggers: I wouldn't hit that.
7
Why would you expect anything less from this traitorous collaborator? Her entire family sold their soul for for a few hundred million dollars a long, long, long time ago.
8
Man, some people really hate themselves.
9
@6 - this is a historic occasion! That said, I totally get why.
10
@4 - the other thing Republicans do is, they make sure their own little life is OK, and then everyone else in the same situation can go straight to hell. "I've got health care and lots of money to take care of any problem that comes up (e.g. lawyers to arrange inheritance and parental rights), and I'm going to do my damnedest to make sure that none of you get what I've got."

And no, Mary Cheney, you may not suck my dick.

@2: It is precisely that line of thinking that allows Democrats to continue being an ineffective party. As long as they know we'll still send them money and support them in the election because they are the lesser of two evils, they have no impetus to actually fight for the issues we care about. Withholding support, costing them an election or two, and telling them exactly why we are no longer going to vote for them might actually scare them into being proactive about issues we really care about. Of course, I gave up supporting Democrats a long time ago.
12
@12 When have the democrats been an effective party? If one of Will Roger's most well known jokes was about not being a member of an organized party, this has been going on for a loooong time.
13
Fucking bitch traitor
14
Dan... seriously.... would you be able to get/maintain a boner with that bitch's lips on your dick?

How about having her toss your salad for you?

Something we can do right now is to help elect pro gay marriage CA Governor candidate Jerry Brown. He is facing anti gay marriage GOP candidate Meg Whitman, who says that she will defend Prop 8 in court if she's elected.

@11

Maybe we shouldn't give money to the Democratic Party or to every Democrat, but we should give money and time to Democrats who are actually our allies and who are gutsy enough to take up our cause publicly.

Democrats like Jerry Brown in CA, Mario Cuomo in NY, and MD Governor O'Malley.

Plus, we should also help the Iowa judges who legalized gay marriage in that state last year. The religious right is targeting them and trying to defeat them this year.
17
@16: My point is that we can't expect politicians of any party to support our agenda if there are no consequences of not doing so. Your strategy of supporting Democrats who actively support us aligns quite nicely with my political philosophy. Maybe I should dig the old Jerry Brown buttons out of my parents attic.
18
Oops

I meant Andrew Cuomo in NY. Not the father.

@17

Yes, we must hold our elected officials accountable. That said, we must do it in strategic manner.

Often times, those of us on the left do not use effective strategy.

Case in point: the 2000 election

Voting for a candidate like Nader just because you ONLY agree with someone like Gore 70% of the time is not effective strategy. It's political suicide.

See: 8 years of George Bush Jr.

We have a chance to help expand gay marriage into several states this election (MD, NY, CA), while protecting our gains in IA. (sadly, there is a good chance that Republicans will take over the Iowa legislature and governorship and then try to end same sex marriage rights in that state).

We can also help elect gay friendly candidates in places where there is sure to be upcoming battles over gay marriage in the next few years -- OR, ME. Here in WA, we can help re-elect gay friendly legislators.

If there is a ballot initiative in 2012 legalizing gay marriage, who would you rather have in office? Senator Murray or Dino Rossi? Who would you rather have in control of the state legislature? Democrats who have voted for domestic partnership laws, or Republicans who have mostly voted against?

We need to think about the next 5 - 10 years when we decide on who to support and HOW Much support to give or to withdrawal.

There is a special place in Hell for Karl Rove, Mary Cheney, and her Dick of a dad.

In a two party system, by fucking definition, you either help one part or the other. There is no third option where you can punish one party in a way that doesn't effectively help the other party. Sure you could vote Green but everyone knows they are patsies for the GOP, just as everyone knows the Libertarians are patsies for the Democrats. It's a two party system, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

What that means is that it is not necessarily realistic to expect either of the two parties to actively support your agenda. If your agenda is too far outside the mainstream, then in many cases the best you can hope for is to thwart the party that is out to do you the most harm.

To recap. There are two parties. Everything you do, and everything you don't do, either helps one party or the other. That's the deal.

I hate it too but that's the deal.
22
@21-elenchos is right.

Perhaps the place the alternative parties need to start is at the very local level, city councils, state reps, county auditor, school board members. They build name recognition, etc, and have a better chance in the bigger elections.

But in the federal positions, there is nothing but two parties to deal with. A vote for the 3rd alternative hurts the party that the 3rd alternative is closest to, which has been the demoncrats.

So... to not help the democrats is to help the repugnicans, and they are the more evil of the evils.
23
I don't buy the idea that voting third party is a wasted vote, nor can I tolerated the idea of voting for someone who won't represent my views on important issues. Within our system, the way to effect a change within a political party is to take your vote somewhere else. It sends the message that an issue IS important. Look at the success the Tea Party has had with the Republican Party. By vocalizing their dissatisfaction, running their own candidates and withholding support from Republicans, they've forced the mainstream party to adopt portions of their crazy right-wing agenda in order to reclaim those votes. The same thing could happen within the Democratic Party.

The Democrats pay lip service to progressive stances on issues while fund raising, but fail to deliver or even attempt any real change once they are in power. To continue supporting them while expecting them to magically change is insane.
24
@22: "So... to not help the democrats is to help the repugnicans, and they are the more evil of the evils."

Ugh. That's the fucking point. To show the Democrats there are consequences to taking our money then ignoring our issues. Be vocal about why we are withholding our votes and financial support. Then reward them with our votes when they re-align themselves into a party more representative of our wishes.

Yes, having big-bad-scary "repugnicans" in power would be a difficult pill to swallow. However, if it causes the Democrats to wake up and realize they can't count on our votes simply because they are not Republicans, then it is a viable strategy.

Please wait...
