Happening in Greece too.

And Ireland.

It's not just in American countries.

Yeah Grant, latin american coups are usually military, but keep in mind that, in Ecuador at least, the police and army are not the same and represent very different power structures. What is novel is that the military was so quick to provide assistance to a fairly leftest head of state. I think that this actually bodes well for constitutional rule in my country. I think coups are fast becoming a thing of the past.

A similar thing happened in Egypt in '86. The government found some still-loyal army divisions and sent them in to quell the riot.

Sure thing, Will. The police in Greece and Ireland are rioting. I don't suppose you've got a link that backs that up.

More bullshit.

@3, beautifully put, thank you!

As someone who witnessed what happened in Seattle during the WTO protests I have to say I HAVE seen what happens when the police riot.

@3 Hopefully you're right.
Many of the worst elements of Latin American militarys(especially those trained at the School of the Americas) have joined Blackwater and gone to the Middle East and elsewhere. This has given democracy some breathing room in LatAm.

Please wait...
