so sweet. the smooch at the end made me tear up a little.
2
That is pretty bad ass.

Dan - You and your Partner should be very proud of this movement that you have started. It is really giving a look into a bigger picture and I personally have lambasted you here in the past for your bitchy nastyness....but now, I can only be humble and eat some crow. Even Briney Murphy is smiling at you!! Wishing you & yours the best always.
4
Oops that was Britney Murphy...
5
@3 Briney Murphy is a character on Sponge Bob, isn't she?
6
Um, Marines.
7
Brittany Murphy smiling from beyond the grave? Or Britney Spears smiling at some WeHo Starbucks?
8
He's in the Marines. I'm in the Army, and I can safely say that he wouldn't want to be called Army almost as much as we wouldn't want him to be called Army.

That being said, a nice video.
9
I love those guys! The kiss at the end made me tear up a little too.
10
glad to see these guys as well.

as great as the project is, I think it can be disheartening to masculine gay youths to see every gay person is fem.

on a side note, I don't think this important aspect is ever really considered. "normal" closeted gay kids can be as peeved out by fem, ~fabulous~ gay kids.

I bullied plenty of fems in my day because I didn't want to turn out like them. I know it was wrong, but it happened and it happens to this day.
11
That is SO badass and so wonderfully sweet too! Thank you both of you men in uniform for being open and encouraging people, especially boys, who struggle.
12
Aw, the smooch. So great.
13
Oh, hush. Marines are tickled pink when you mistake them for Army. They love it! But their favorite is Air Force. Next time you see one, run up and say, "America is proud of you, Airman!" Try it and come tell me they don't love it.

Just don't confuse them with the fucking Navy.

@5 King of the Hill.
15
maybe 'macho' doesn't mean what you think it does....

Yeah.
It gets "better".
You grow up to be exploited by prominent homosexual elected officials.
(if you can make it to 17.....)
19
These guys and gals aren't confused. Enjoy!

21
@18: Yeah, like straight elected officials never hit any jailbait. YOU MAD.
22
Is that Marine going to have a job next week?

23
Invaluable.
24
The Marine is being dishonorably discharged even as I type (if he's really who he identified himself as).
For some inexplicable reason, this video affected me in a way that none of the others have . . . it delighted me, and I broke out in a huge gleeful smile. I think it was the joyfulness I felt at the sight of two men being PERFECTLY AT EASE with the usually contradictory roles of being extremely conservative, macho he-men--without a trace of camp--and totally out gay men. Their demeanor signified so much peace with who they are, and came from such unlikely sources.

So in that giddy mood I went into the comment thread, and smiled at the jokey, good-humored tone the posts were, as opposed to some of the more recent ones fraught with angst and disapproval.

And THEN, in that buoyant mood of optimism I read Taller Than You (#10)'s post and I felt sad for all the different ways living in a bigoted society can wound you, and who its myriad victims are. I also felt a respect for Taller, since it takes a lot of guts to be that honest especially on this thread, where people are not always so tolerant of others' divergent opinions.

This roller coaster of emotions is messin' with me!
25
@22 He says in the video he's retired. I think this is one of my favorites so far.
26
There was another video with a couple, where one talks about how he was bullied, and the other talks about how he used to bully femme guys because he didn't want to accept his orientation. I wish I could find it, but at this point, I've seen so many videos that I can't remember what they looked like.

Anyone else remember?

Here it is, Nurse! Godfrey and Charley...

28
@24, Don't exaggerate the DADT problem.

First, he's retired, so the military can't do anything at all to him now.

Second, even if he was on active duty, under DADT, he would be given an honorable or administrative discharge, not a dishonorable discharge. Believe me, there is a HUGE difference. DADT sucks, but that is one of the few positive compromises they made. Prior to DADT, gay service members were often jailed first, then dishonorably discharged. DADT ended that, if nothing else.
29
Q: What's better than a man in uniform?

A: TWO men in uniform getting smoochy!
30
It sends a great message to gay kids who are very masculine and don't see role models for that very often. My 17 year old son describes himself as 'just a guy that likes guys.'

That's been my experience too (for the record, I spent about five or six years as an infantryman on active duty in the Army before being discharged under DADT). I found it very hard to come out as a gay man when the world, including the gay world, seems to expect you to be this fey, effeminate thing that does drag and sings showtunes (I exaggerate, but not as much as you might think).

Doubly so because you really internalize the whole "real men don't express emotions" thing, which can lead to all kinds of problems.

Thankfully, I've grown up a bit since then, and gotten much more comfortable with myself and my sexuality, but it's still good to see some gay role models out there who don't dream of a starring role in the Broadway cast of Wicked.
31
I'm worried. That Marine could lose his job for this because of DADT. O_O
32
Oh, didn't see that he is retired. That's a relief. I was worried that he would actually be discharged...
33
@28: I was trying to be funny. Guess the joke didn't come through.
34
what a bunch of fucking idiots
35
Uh...what's going on with Mr. Marine's right pants leg there in the video still shot?
36
This is like the eighth time I've seen this, and it always gets me. Just so great.
37
The shortest one I've seen so far, and it made me squeal like a 10 year-old girl.
38
so good!
39
I too was glad to see a video representing the more masculine and athletic subset of the gay community represented. Having grown up a closeted gay jock. The good news is you don't get teased (because no one knows your gay) and you don't get bullied (no one would want to mess with you). The bad news is you are very confused and isolated. There used to be no masculine gay role models to look up to. You feel like you are the only one on the planet, and can't quite figure out whats "wrong" with you. Ironically they are all around you.... you just don't know it.

To date there seems to be a disproportionate amount of theater and entertainment types posting videos. This of course makes sense because the entertainment world attracts gays, and theater types are comfortable in front of a camera.

I've been talking this site up with my friends from the gym. Trying to roust up a few masculine athletes to post a video. Of course the strong quiet types are a little camera shy. I think it is important for gay teens to realize there are very many ways to be gay. That they have many more options open to them other than standard stereo types. Ballet dancer or Olympic power-lifter..... the world is your oyster....and welcome to the NFL.
40
The kiss at the end didn't make me tear up a little. It made me bawl like a fucking baby. This is beautiful.
41
All the videos are amazing. This one made me cry!

Please wait...
