Françoise Gilot is also the widow of Jonas Salk; they were married from 1970 until his death in 1995.

I agree with you about her art, though it seems to have an enduring appeal to the La Jolla crowd amongst whom she and Salk lived.

Pable had a huge influence on Gilots sense of composition, that's why she's relevant to his work. Not to mention the fact that she's a very accomplished print maker, using only a handful of colors, to create new colors in the printing process. These were printed at Mourlot and are included in the book 'Stone Echoes - A Catalogue Raisonne' by author Mel Yoakum Ph.D. Additionally, all of her sales are archived, that is why they command the price that they do.
