Rememeber when Lisa Bonet was naked in Angel Heart? That was right in the middle of the series franchise (1987, series ended in 199?). The only person who had a problem was Bill Cosby. But its a similar situation, adult woman, in an adult movie movie, but still playing a high school character. I dont see the outrage.
@7 agreed, Taylor Momsen is only 17 and she has been wearing less than these girls on the cover of magazines. Check her out: http://www.jrgossip.com/pics/Taylor-Moms…
You people don't get the real problem. It's the fact that the almost-30-year-old male is fully clothed. While is baby slut jrs. are spread-eagle on a gym bench. That's the real problem. Someone take his clothes off.
A. Glee is not a family show and any parent who thinks it IS a family show isn't a very good parent.
B. Anyone who mistakes these three actors as prepubescent (ie, under 12) is a fucking idiot.
C. GQ is NOT a family magazine, it's an adult men's magazine so your kids shouldn't be looking at it.
D. You think THIS is the worst thing your kid is going to see on the internet? Get a fucking clue and quit expecting others to parent your child for you.
Paul: what if, instead of portraying a high schooler, the 24-year-old actress were portraying a 12-year old? Would you still be okay with sexualized images of her *as her character*, *wearing her school uniform*?
Prediction: no, you wouldn't, because at some level you recognize that *it's not just the 24-year-old who's being sexualized*, it's her status as a high-school girl. Sexualizing individuals is one thing, *sexualizing the status of being a high-school girl is something else*, and it is very much a part of our culture, and it is very much a part of this photo shoot.
If you don't think that sexualizing the idea of high school girls is a bad thing: FINE, TALK ABOUT THAT. But don't pretend that you don't see that this is not just a photo shoot of a 24-year-old; it's a photo shoot of a fictional high schooler. Don't pretend that it's ludicrous to think this is problematic. If you do want to pretend that, then EXPLAIN WHAT YOUR REACTION WOULD BE if her character were 12 instead of -- 17, or whatever.
@24: Bullshit. If you can't tell the difference between a 12 year old and an 18 year old, that's your problem. Besides, anyone smart enough to work the remote should know, without having to be told, that sexualizing a 24 year old playing a 17 year old high school student is far different than sexualizing a 17 year old in the same role, and that it has everything to do with the age of the actor.
Today I was walking along the ID station plaza after getting off Sounder in the morning.
A gaggle of Asian girls crossed my path, of what age I do not wish to know...however, many of them had lacy micro skirts, high heeled shoes, leggings of various colors, some with dyed hair, tops with skinny straps...in other words, my dream come true (until you tell me otherwise, officer).
What I'm saying is, the Glee aping seems to be tamer than the real thing.
I saw the pictures. They are not particularly well-done or tasteful (Lea Michelle is going to regret that crotch shot someday). But Glee, despite it's "hey kids, let's put on a show" is NOT a show for anyone younger than high school. And GQ is NOT a magazine for anyone younger than high school.
These are actors promoting their careers. Their characters are not particularly wholesome, well-manner people.
Doesn't Disney still do wholesome, clean shows for kids? Watch that if Glee is not clean enough for your kids.
The ladies on the View lost their shit over this 'scandal'. Not the swastika box with fake anthrax sent to Rep. Raul Grijalva. Not the fake anthrax sent to the NAACP. Not the Republican candidate in Texas who said: "If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary." Not Joe Miller's off-duty military officers / anti-government militia member security force illegally detaining reporters. Not any of that...just 20+ year olds showing off their bodies. Can anyone bitching about the GQ photo shoot cite a study that shows that this damages children's sensitive minds??? Didn't think so...
I think the shoot was inappropriate not just because these actors are famous for playing high school students, but also because the point of the shoot was to highlight the fact that they're playing high school characters. "We show you what happens when the teachers aren't around"? I know Glee hasn't been the most family-friendly show, but I didn't think they would stoop to endorsing such racy photos.
the first season story line revolved about a pregnant teen lying to her boyfriend about getting knocked up in a hot tub. very family friendly lol. my only complaint is in the photo shoot, the women were dressed like sluts. fine, but the boys were fully clothed. i want slutty boy glee characters lol
Very silly, but the ratings grab of young men 18-34 is exactly what the network wants.
And it's working.
Face it, a hot brunette like the mid-20s lead actress from Glee is exactly what America needs.
Does Katie Couric really think the term "gestalt" was the most appropriate term for what she was trying to say?
The term gestalt just seems so un-TV-like...these words don't really - in my humble opinion - fit the TV milieu.
ahem.

BTW, I would lick every inch of both those girls.
