So I can go to Florida now and adopt a gay person?
2
...And appending snarky one liners to news bullets is edgy, you think? You're yet another Jay Leno imitator, Matt, which puts you in no position to call anybody else lame.
3
Fuck, we are sooooo edgy!!

I haven't seen cartoonish sarcasm like this since 1991!

Unicef.org to help Haiti's children
5
Sorry Matt, can't win with this crowd.

College kids are annoying though.
6
@4 good point

there's also KEXP and NPR and Strangercrombie, so many causes where you can throw away you're money. Remember, they know what to do with your money better than you. Donate now.
7
@ 5 -- Tough crowd, yeah. Meh. It's still fun.

@ 6 -- Speaking of charities, if anyone is looking to evaluate them before donating, be sure to check out http://www.charitynavigator.org/.

Thanks for the reminder I needed 2 more hours of sleep; I'm not sure if this sentence is edgy, cartoonish, or Leno-worthy, but it was cheaper than Ambien:

Still, I don't expect Slog will have any sympathy for Reichert since he cast his fateful no vote based on funding offsets to be created by "more than doubling the tax rate on compensation collected by hedge-fund managers, private-equity firms and other investment partnerships."

@7 that's interesting, but i wouldn't trust them either. that's how i roll.
back in the 80s i called on behalf of MADD.
what. a. joke.
but it's a paycheck, and with arrogance, a paycheck is the sole reason you work for the Stranger.
DOING charity work VOLUNTARILY is the ONLY sincere (how does charitynavigator put it?) METHODOLOGY.

"Making Tolls Less Annoying"
I totally parsed that as "Trolls" at first. If someone did, they would rule the Interbutts.

Florida is NOT the last state to ban gay adoption. Arkansas passed a ballot initiative in 2008 banning "unmarried couples" (and we all know who that means) from adopting or being foster parents. It may not mention gay couples explicitly, but let's not kid ourselves about what motivated the passage of that ballot initiative.
12
that cnn article is wrong about florida being the last, sadly

After viewing the video at the article of humans vs zombies .. I do not think any of those kids is trying to be edgy. At worst they are actual nerds and at best they are normal college kids.

They are just trying to have some fun that doesn't involve standing around in plaid and fake glasses smoking American Spirits and bitching about zombie/ninja trends and how much better they were before Plants vs Zombies.
15
I don't think you get the zombie thing, OP.

A nerd movement that can't seem to find a high water mark hardly concerns itself with being edgy. Perish the thought that anyone do that, by the way.

"Look at me calling bullshit on Zombies. I'm so edgy."

@ 11, 12, 13 -- As far as I see, that Wikipedia article says the Arkansas law got struck down in April 2010. It is a good point, though. If I'm wrong, I'll certainly correct the post.

@ 14, 15 -- Maybe I'm being unfair, but I've seen this zombie stuff popping up in more and more online profiles for the past couple of years. It's funny that you associate me with the plaid-wearing Spirit-smokers since it is in fact them with whom I most closely associate this "movement." To me, zombies and ninjas are Chuck Norris jokes that are more socially acceptable and have enjoyed a longer shelf life.
17
Damn, I was wishing for Koster to still be a jerk and avoid having some kind of debate with Larsen.

@16: Good news, Matt! PopCap Games, the makers of Plants vs. Zombies, is right here in Seattle, in Belltown! You can go picket them on your day off, you pretentious twit!

@14, 18: I am going to a Halloween party dressed as Crazy Dave. My girlfriend will NOT dissuade me!

Please wait...
