Most likely because the ones running as Republicants this year are crazy.

Or witches.

The most schizophrenic position the Times has taken is a barrel of ink over how easily the Legislature can extend the I-1098 income tax to more taxpayers with a simple majority vote after two years ("because the State Constitution says so!"), while supporting the ridiculous Eyman initiative requiring a 2/3 vote of each house of the Legislature to increase taxes. Uh, guess what, Seattle Times? Read Article II Section 22 of that same State Constitution. ("No bill shall become a law unless on its final passage the vote be taken by yeas and nays, the names of the members voting for and against the same be entered on the journal of each house, and a majority of the members elected to each house be recorded thereon as voting in its favor.")

Voting for Democrats won't matter much if voters hold to the position that taxes must always be going downward. As long as that trend continues, the Grover Norquist strategy prevails.

The Times is being practical. Right wingers are the new liners for the bottom of your parakeet's cage, and nobody uses newspaper any more.

"Tweety" will be singing madly, and squawking "No taxes! No taxes! No taxes! Awwwwk! Say, you wouldn't have a cracker or something crunchy, would you?"

Now you know why everyone calls a right winger "Bird Brain."

And the Times did urge rejection of the Seattle school levy. I'm on the Committee to vote to reject the levy and boy, were we surprised. But they took the time to really listen and get ALL the facts.

They weren't alone. The League of Women Voters - after supporting the levies that passed just this past Feb. but urging the district to do better with oversight and accountability - took no position, noting that the state audit showed the district needs to do far better. The 11th district Dems also voted no on the levy.

Hell might freeze over next.

I think sometimes Ryan Blethen wins the editorial position contest and sometimes Joni Balter does.

If you've seen Ryan Blethen's mustache, this should not be a surprise.

Please wait...
