It was a good piece. What was funny was when Lesley Stahl asks Gates, Sr. why his son wants to vote for the measure. He says, "Well, I wouldn't say "wants" to vote but he understands why."

Also, Gates, Sr. goes through this amount ladder with Stahl over how much people would have to pay and it's also good.

One guy on the piece tries to say Gates, Jr. wouldn't have to pay and Senior practically snorts and says of course he will.

I'm a little confused about whether the already rich would pay. Isn't investment income taxed at the flat 15% capital gains? Does this tax consider those types of earnings income as well?

The idea of the "american dream" and the belief that many of us have that we too will be rich if we just work hard enough is a fallacy that drives popular opposition to things like this.

Dom, are you planning on paying any income tax? Perhaps instead of buying that half ounce of weed, you could send a couple hundred dollars per year to the state for education.

No? Why not? Because you're a greedy man-child, you say? Oh, OK.

So, it's greed that drove him to include a fat juicey tax cut on property that benefits him more than anyone else?

Is everyone too dumb to add in this state?

(Question asked and answered.)

@4: Does Gates Sr. really own that much property? Regardless, my guess is that most of his income is in investment income or capital gains, same as Bill Jr's.

@2 you are correct. But it is taxed, and right now it isn't at all.

Please wait...
