What a bunch of bullshit! Can the King County Elections Board for once not fuck something up?
2
Poor planning for vote quantities = disenfranchisement. In the county where we need the votes the most.

Big sigh.
3
Too poor to buy stamps or yearning for those old polling place days.

Don't get me wrong: I like the mail-in ballots, but I also miss seeing my neighbors at the polling place on election day.

It's so nice to live in a city that's also its own county. Not that this stops them from being fuck-ups, but there's only one set of people who can fuck things up instead of two.
5
Huh. Those are really big boxes. They must not be emptying them on a regular interval after we get the ballots.

I'm sure it's somewhere on Slog already, but could somebody point me to a list of locations for the drop boxes? I seriously thought I had until tomorrow to mail my ballot. While I know it's always on Tuesdays, for some reason I had November 3rd stuck in my head.

"With help from a Four Loko and a spare shoehorn, we managed to barely cram in one more. "

Pure gold!

Here's the ballot box location list: http://www.kingcounty.gov/elections/voti…

Or it's a sign that 3 drop boxes in a GODDAMNED METROPOLIS isn't nearly enough.

Mike @ 9

I attended King County's most recent Citizen Election Oversight Committee meeting.

The original vote by mail plan called for 17. Budget cuts reduced the number to 3 (plus 3 civic buildings, for 6 total). For this election, they're back up to 8 (plus the 3 bldgs). Because of some major changes in mail ballot processing, KCE was able to save quite a bit of money and could afford more boxes for this election.

Director of Elections Sherril Huff explained that they've learned a lot about using ballot drop boxes. Vandalism. Need for protecting the workers at closing time. Getting smarter about choosing locations.

I opposed closing the poll sites. I think the ballot dropoff boxes are silly. And the touchscreens should be in a landfill.

But policy differences aside, I think KCE is doing a good job with the resources they have.

Cheers, Jason
