Apologies if this is a dumb question - what's the purpose of the Birch Steen articles? It's always the same faux "I Hate Everything In The Stranger" take-down - is it simply a self-deprecating parody of the paper that everyone takes turns writing, or is there a grander intent?
2
"same as last week" - I peed.
3
I imagine A. Birch Steen sounding like Dr. Marvin Monroe from the simpsons.
4
What ever happened to the French Intern? Did Dan get bored of the charade or something?
5
Where have you gone, T. Herman Zweibel? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

@1, @5 has it I think - Steen's our local spin on the late T. Herman Zweibel at the paper Tim Keck founded before the Stranger, a little rag called the Onion.

(P.S. The mere fact that A. Birch Steen is an anagram of Steinbacher means nothing.)

The French intern went away. But not before The Stranger learnt him a thing or two.
8
our FAR INFERIOR local spin, yes.
9
It's still my dream to be A. Birch Steen's Secretary.
10
this is always my fav part of the paper
11
Not gonna lie, I'm getting a little sick of Derek Erdman.
12
This joke never gets old
13
I miss the French Intern.

Tout le monde a besoin de lui.
14
@6, The mere fact that A. Birch Steen's "voice" changed subtly after Steinbacher retired, also meaningless.
15
I miss Brad Steinbacher.
16
You've just destroyed my cherished illusion that he still contributed that one pseudonymous piece each week. OK then, fuck it.

15: I miss Teach Brines A.K.A. Braces Thine :(

I've been assuming that Fnarf was Brad's replacement.
