The writer says the late 1960s was the time when the first generation of young, smart, capable and gritty actresses came to be.
Well aint that a slap in the fucking face to Hepburn, Davis et al. Typical NYT crap storytelling.
She had a weird supporting role in Running w/ Scissors (awful movie) and she was amazing. Made me think that I should have paid more attention to her career...
I've taken her big number to be my theme song. C'mon everybody! Sing it with me for Jill....
I'm your average ordinary kind of mannequin
Competent and neat
Making life a treat
Others as nice
You meet often I know
At least once or twice
Every decade or so
I'm your everyday, customary kind of mannequin
Practical as salt
Modest to a fault
Conservative with a budget
Liberal with a meal
Just your average ideal
My telling you this
May seem sudden and strange
It may not interest you much at all right now
But things change
Things change....
Still I'll understand if I'm not your kind of mannequin
Anyone can make
One terrible mistake
But I've no special glamour
No bait I can twirl
For I'm just a plain, everyday
Commonplace, come-what-may
Average, ordinary
imitation girl!
@ 6: EVERYONE tries to forget about "Luna". (I was successful until you brought it up.) Loved Jill Clayburgh, wondered why I hadn't seen her in later years. RIP.
"The First Monday in October" is an underrated film, well worth a watch. Clayburgh and Walter Matthau play off each other supremely (no pun intended) well.
...and it seemed (to me at least) that Jill and Nancy Reagan were separated at birth - though Jill was far more elegant minus the just-say-no bitchiness.

Although there's the NYT's inimitable delivery, there...
Wiki has already updated her entry: Jill Clayburgh which has perhaps a better summary of her career.

RIP, Ms. Clayburgh
Those guys had their "heydey" in the 1970s...not sure how much of it carries forward.
RIP
-Jill Clayburgh referring to Candice Bergen's character in "Starting Over", a late 80's comedy.
R.I.P. Jill, lady of grace and talent.
