"in this depressing economic climate"

Poor Charles, no one told him it was the 'world's oldest profession'.

BTW, these were mainly Somalis enslaving black girls. Enjoy the irony.

So how many rappers live to glorify pimp culture and never get condemned by the Stranger?
2
Yeah...rape slaves are never "prostitutes," especially CHILD rape slaves. Calling them "prostitutes" conflates a ton of issues. Labeling them in this manner implies agency (sexual or otherwise) that children don't have. It's not SEX it's RAPE. Get it straight, society!
3
I agree with you Charles. This is only the feel-good tip of a very large iceberg. Young women do not usually go into sex work unless they have no other options. Poverty, poorly funded or non-existent social services, such as basic family counseling, all combine to increase the number of run-aways. What can an unskilled girl living on the streets do for a living? We need to create a social network equal to other industrialized, 1st world nations.
4
Why not complain about the fact that it's only annual, instead of a 24x7x365 task force to recover these children? That's the most appalling thing.
5
only two types of people exist. rich and poor. mhmm.
6
In the interest of being constructive (not that I'm convinced that's one of your interests), what would you prefer law enforcement do instead, Charles?

Africans at it again... TNB.

"Blame it all on Whitey Mudede" at it again too... TNB.

Indictment: Somali gangs trafficked girls for sex

By AMY FORLITI, Associated Press Amy Forliti, Associated Press – Mon Nov 8, 6:53 pm ET

MINNEAPOLIS – Twenty-nine people have been indicted in a sex trafficking ring in which Somali gangs in Minneapolis and St. Paul allegedly forced girls under age 14 into prostitution in Minnesota, Tennessee and Ohio, according to an indictment unsealed Monday.

The 24-count indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Tennessee, said one of the gangs' goals was recruiting females under age 18, including some under age 14, and forcing them into prostitution so the defendants could get money, marijuana or liquor.

The indictment details several instances in which young Somali or African American girls were taken from place to place and forced to engage in sex acts with multiple people. One girl was under 13 when she was first prostituted. Another girl was 18 when she was raped by multiple men in a hotel room, the indictment said.

"We need to create a social network equal to other industrialized, 1st world nations"

Yes, because there are no hookers along French, Belgium, German and Italian highways.
9
I agree with Charles and @4. Impoverished young women are too often sold for sex. It happens all over the world and will happen more and more here if our social safety net continues to deteriorate. It’s very sad.
10
(Sorta reposted from yesterday's thread on this, sorry) They started this annual sweep to build and annually renew ties between social services and criminal justice agencies, to treat pimping of children as distinct from ordinary prostitution.

The first annual push was meant to get the system up and running - each subsequent push is meant to keep child prostitution...not prostitution, child prostitution...on every agency's radar all the time.

Of course it has a cheesy PR side to it, but not cheesier than citizens saying things like "fuckers only care once a year, whut?" and "arresting pimps who recruit children hurts the children who need jobs like this in these tough times".
11
@10 Charles would prefer police officers sit around and contemplate their hegemonic influence in the capitalist world order and how they are all really personally responsible for children being sold as prostitutes. Arresting pimps is just a self-serving PR move.
12
Hadn't thought about it like that, thanks Charles.
13
Blame class and the system, typical Marxist whiny faggotry. I'd still like to see a racial and ethnic breakdown of the whores.
14
It's a little ironic to see Charles getting on the soapbox about this when he works for a paper that makes money from escort ads. Do you actually believe, Charles, that the girls in those ads are prostitutes of their own volition, that none of them were forced into the sex trade or are being exploited by pimps? Puhleeze.
15
@13, they are black, of course

(shakes head sadly)

Call me crazy, but it seems to me that our society should use every available tool to combat child prostitution, and that law enforcement is one tool among many.

You deduce that using criminal investigation against child prostitution is a mere distraction, and no other remedy is being employed. That borders on reasonable. But it is completely irrational to conclude that law enforcement against child prostitution is therefore not valid, not sincere, not impactful, and is merely some kind of political theater.

Am I completely mistaken, or are you therefore claiming that there is a conspiracy by parties unknown to distract us all from the social injustices that give rise to child prostitution by using the FBI to combat it?

With that bold deduction you've jumped from valid critique to paranoid fantasy. Your argument compensates with vehemence what it lacks in coherence.

Take a deep breath, and try again.
17
@10, "arresting pimps who recruit children hurts the children who need jobs like this in these tough times".

Did anyone say that? That's an icky thing to say.
18
" it seems to me that our society should use every available tool to combat child prostitution,"

Would that include condemning loudly and firmly cultural norms in certain parts of society that glorify gangbanging and pimping through rap music? Or is 'culture' off the table again?
19
I wish I could fucking slap you for this post.
20
Well, if this wasn't a rescue, maybe the Feds and cops shouldn't do this kind of thing in the future.

If there's one thing I hate, other than Mudede's masturbatory writing style, it's the "anything that merely does some good and doesn't solve the whole problem everywhere all at once is a waste of time" mentality. Same shit behind the attacks on the IGBP. If you don't think someone else's efforts are enough, you need to be out there showing 'em how it's done.
21
Charles just thinks that blacks shouldn't have to follow evil racist whitey laws.
22
@17, that was indeed pearl-clutching hyperbole on my part, sorry. But Charles seems to insist that busting kids' pimps and trying to help the kids is contemptible until we first solve the kids' underlying socioeconomic challenges. I can't think of a more child-pimp-friendly philosophical stance, is all.
23
Chuck,

Instead of taxing the rich out of existence couldn't we just kill the poor? It would probably do better at the polls as poor people don't vote. Problem solved.
Just spitballin here.
24
14 not all sex workers are slaves. thats just not fair to miscast it what way. there may be a problem, but outlawing it doesnt make it better. legalize and regulate it. i happen to hire sex workers all the time- strippers, models, prostitutes, not young girls mind you, and they often love their jobs. its not all dark and nasty. like sex toys and adult shops, the culture can and should be perceived more positively. not that it will in this puritanical and racist society...
25
and charles you are right- the more social services get cut the more this type of trafficking will take place. its good we have the racists feel free to come out with their viewpoints @ 13 and 15 because we see how simpleminded and stupid they are, and how little empathy they have for their fellow man.
26
@2 and @10 well said.
27
"strippers, models, prostitutes, not young girls mind you, and they often love their jobs."

That's what they tell you. You also probably think they all really like you too.
28
@24 "racist society"

At least 94% of the approximately 8,000 blacks murdered in the USA every year are murdered by other blacks. Presently, blacks kill about 3 times the amount of blacks in only one year than the total number of all racist lynchings in the history of the USA.

Evil white racists like me have absolutely no need to "oppress" blacks or to "keep them down". They do an awesome job of that all by themselves! Way better than the Klan ever did!
29
Ugh, the Somalians? Seems like they're letting boatloads of them off in Seattle everyday, I know a shitload of them are in the Twin Cities as well. Western culture is being ruined by all these 3rd world morons.
30
24, this racist society? Since 1965, can you tell me what nations have become the most racially "diverse"? Oh, that's right, western european countries have. Not Japan or India or other Asian countries.

Puritanical? We've become so godless that teenage pregnancy, the Kardashians and spreading feces on a picture of the Virgin Mary are now lauded and accepted.
31
Sad story. I feel for these girls, who have had hard and shitty lives so far. I hope they get it back on track.

But I think that prostitution (and drug use on the same grounds, but that's a different post) should be legalized.

A woman (or man; there *are* male prostitutes) should be free to do with her/his body what they want. (Similar to the pro-choice argument, I guess). And there are women who do choose to do this work freely - the Nevada brothels are the prime example; Amsterdam and Germany are another - and are not pimped out or drug addicts.

Pimping should be made into a violent offense, and pimping underaged women should be a capital offense.

And for the record: No, I have never paid a prostitute, and have no intention to.
32
It's clear to me that comment 29 and 30 are some sort of performance art.
33
Prostitution is not a federal crime, neither is visiting a prostitute.

The FBI couldn't find its own ass with both hands if it didn't have a rat.
34
So many anonymous blowhards. So little time. Not one of them includes a link for direct, personal feedback. Cowards, the lot of them.
35
Thanks, Charles. Your post was a welcome break from the usual Stranger doctrine that everyone on the game is in it for the fun, and nobody gets trafficked.
36
#24, I didn't say that all sex workers are slaves, did I? Nor did I offer an opinion either way about legalizing prostitution. My point is that there's no way to know whether the girls/women represented in the Stranger's escort ads are in fact adults and are selling themselves voluntarily, rather than being pimped out/exploited by someone else. Seeing as how revenue from those ads helps pay the Stranger's bills, it comes off as a bit shortsighted, maybe even hypocritical, for Mudede to get on his soapbox about this.
37
A friend pointed out that the way the bust happened is, at least, progress. They used to just throw them in jail. The authorities finally see young girls who prostitute themselves as victims, instead of "re-victimizing" them by throwing them in jail.
38
I am actually happy that the police finally decided to do something about prostitution here in Minneapolis. I have lived in several apartment buildings where i later found out my neighbors were prostitutes... The police never do anything about it... it is sad that it is an illegal crime and very rarely do the police even attempt to try to stop it. Either way through in response to all of these posts it is illegal for prostitutes, pimps, tricks, etc, so whether you agree or not it is just as illegal as speeding, dui, murder, selling drugs, racketeering, etc. So until the law changes it is illegal and all parties involved should be treated accordingly
39
Libtard @28

You seem to be arguing that murder is the only way to express racism. Really?

Please wait...
