Look, people, Dan (and the creators of Team America) are not trivializing the AIDS crisis with this song. It's more of a social commentary on how the play RENT exploited the AIDs crisis to make a hit Broadway play, so take a deep breath, remove your head from your ass and try again!
I'm aware it's supposed to be funny and a parody and even perhaps social commentary, but like much of what is produced by Trey Parker et al it actually isn't very funny, and it's in remarkably poor taste to post it today. Seriously, this is what we get from Dan on World AIDS Day?
Your point being what? That that makes it funny? Could you really not think of anything more relevant or sobering or interesting or uplifting to post on World AIDS Day?
Are we getting lectured on good taste and maturity by a commenter with a Harry Potter avatar?
Laughing about AIDS is about the best way I know to keep from weeping constantly over the generation of wonderful homos that we lost. So please get over yourself, Dingo, and let others celebrate the day however they see fit.
Some previous Sloggers would apparently prefer weepy group-hug sanctimony...
Some of us are still very much missing the ones we lost to this disease. Oh, and to the other one that's still taking our lives. The one Dan addressed in a much better fashion with the It Gets Better project. Can't wait for South Park to do a parody of that!
You want AIDS jokes? Here's one Bob Hope told at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty: they say the Statue of Liberty has AIDS, but they can't tell if she got it from the Staton Island Fairy or the mouth of the Hudson.
Hilarious isn't it? Well...Ronald Reagan thought so...
Yeah, like @4 said, I always saw that song as being more making fun of Rent than of AIDS. I mean, seriously, how many characters are there in Rent that don't have AIDS? Like, two?
It's really sad that all of you bleeding hearts don't understand that we're making fun of you. You people take this serious disease and exploit it with your tears and whines for people to behave how you see fit.
Any terminal illness needs to be met with gumption and the best coping mechanism in the face of death is laughter. Take this from someone who has had Alcoholism, Aids, Cancer, Drug Abuse and Depression snatch family from his life.
Also...this is equal parts offensive and funny.

But I still think it's stupid IMHO.

LOL! (Though obviously *not* funny in its original context.)
