I want to thank Jen once again for the three posts on this news as it broke yesterday afternoon. And very good action suggestions, updated as she learned more. Really appreciate it, along with this update of Andy's weigh-in today.
Even if it was deliberately offensive, there would be absolutely no justification whatsoever to pull it from the walls of an art exhibit. That's what art IS. It's not there to reinforce your preconceptions and make you feel complacent; it's there to shake you up.
No, no, no, see, ART IS BAD. 'Cause it might be subversive: it's too much work to deconstruct and analyze it to find out, and even so it often has multiple valid interpretations. Since we can't control the content, nor the interpretations thereof, it must be removed! What if someone gets the idea that Christianity isn't The Way??!!
Our troll population is continuing to backslide, though I found this one funny, given that Dan didn't use the word "coward": "oh look Danny has learned a new word- c.o.w.a.r.d...."
There HAVE to be some psych studies on trolling at this point, right? I'll bet they're fascinating. I'm especially curious about the psychological payoff of the behavior: what do they get out of it? Anyone know of any?
@7: It DID happen in America, already, around the same issue, with South Park and Family Guy at the very least (the biggest irony is that South Park had previously used an image of the Muslim Prophet as part of the Super Best Friends, a Superfriends spoof using religious leaders with magical powers).
The world's gone mad. NPR gives coverage to Christian bigots because ..... why, because God is on their side? Where's the coverage of people speaking against Christian bigotry? Where's coverage for the separation of church and state? Oh, I forgot, can't be against Christians because God's on their side.
This video frightens me, I'm shaken after watching it. But I hardly find it offensive. As stated before this is about a person with aids and they really captured the fear and torment in the imagery.
I may not watch the video, because I know I'm a bit over-sensitive and it would probably give me nightmares. But, that's my problem. I sure as shit wouldn't prevent anyone else from seeing it, nor criticize any curator for including it in a show. Fuck. What is wrong with these people?
Danny has learned a new word-
c.o.w.a.r.d....
Very Good, Daniel!
