When I lived in the Elektra back in the 90s sometimes I'd go up on the roof and get high and call all my friends to describe the sky until they hung up on me. The internet is soooo much better for this kind of thing.
Did you know CNN is not only super organized, but uses big words, too? Like "Lagniappe." Here's how you can be prepared for the week ahead, by knowing what news stories are coming up before they happen!:
"It's time to plug in for the week ahead, so you'll be smart and prepared on Monday morning. To stay ahead of the curve, here are the top news events coming up and a lagniappe of last week's hot topics."
And this is a "lagniappe":
"A lagniappe (pronounced /ˈlænjæp/ LAN-yap) is a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase (such as a 13th donut when buying a dozen), or more broadly, "something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure."[1] The word is chiefly used in the Gulf Coast of the United States, especially Louisiana."
Sorry to be off topic, but Mr. Canuck is sick, and so we've just canceled our attendance at a vegetarian Xmas potluck, and I find myself with time on my hands, as well as 12 cups of lentil/pine nut salad.
@11 I know...what's that all about? I made some pesto this summer that would have been cheaper with saffron.
gus! Yet another word to look up...did your mum take her lorgnette to the Uncle Bonsai concert? And Mr. Canuck will be fine, thanks for your wishes...as you know, men do tend to be fragile creatures when a cold strikes...
My Xmas alphabet letter: so far, I have "A is for Advil"...
Canuck, my mom used her wrought silver lorgnette to read the program at the opera (and of course also brought opera glasses with mother of pearl inlay to catch all the unsubtle expressions onstage). She only went to the opera a couple times, and didn't much like it, but loved the chance to buy second hand accessories to suit the occasion.
Your mom sounds delightful, gus, she must've been a hoot. And she is so right: The fun is in the accessories, especially those found in second hand stores, my home away from home.
