Naturally, Ben Davis should consider consulting with a lawyer before acting on this, but it looks like he's got a solid case threat, duress or coercion, meaning his signature is basically meaningless.
I don't get it. Lots of words, no explanation for what this is about. I watched the movie too and that was no help either. I mean, obviously, good luck finding a venue that will show that movie. Duh.
Is this one of those things that can't be explained in words to anybody who isn't already drinking the kool aid?
@6: The portrait gallery has a show featuring work by assorted gay artists, that video among them. Assorted conservative elements objected to the part of the video with the ants crawling on the crucifix; the Smithsonian caved and took the video out. Cue protests of the decision, etc.
Bravo. I'm proud of you for your commitment, your action, and your thoughtfulness in how to react to the security guards. Good for you. This must stop. The silliness of Christians and conservatives who feel so besieged by opposing ideas can never be underestimated. The Smithsonian should have more balls than this. Why even do a show if you're not going to back up the curators and their intentions? Grow a pair. There's plenty of art to go around. We who are gay, we who are in the arts, we who run counter to the majority also pay taxes and also must be heard.
Please wait...
and remember to be decent to everyone all of the time.
Sir, the Nam June Paik exhibit is that way!
