"We all"?
2
Ok, Charles, if you say so.
3
i do agree about the lack of god in this story. but the class thing? i'm sure there are mobile home residents who own SUVs, so how can you assume that the SUV owner and the poor kid who died aren't of the same class?
4
I'll agree with you about no god. Sadly "we all" don't know it. What I don't get is what either thing has to do with this story and how you managed to conclude that this has anything to do with class. What makes you think that the driver of the SUV was neccesarily of a higher class than the boy?
5
class is where he lives.
6
Is this just a troll-fishing expedition?

7
Wow. Looks like Charles is having one of those days.
8
What we really lack is imagination. While this is a tradgedy it is also one life in one moment of time. Twenty-four thousand children die everyday from preventable causes. Earth and it's inhabitants are on a miniscule piece of dust. What we see as proof of no god, might, indeed, be just the opposite. And when I say god, I do not speak of the god in any religion.
9
Yes, chuckles, class does determine where one lives. However, change the first sentence to read "...crashed into a home in Broadmoor early Tuesday... ", and it is exactly the same story. Nothing indicates, from the info given, that this has anything to do with class disparity at all.
FAIL.
10
I disagree that the rigid class order is invisible to the middle class. The difficulty of movement through classes is probably more salient to the middle class than either the upper or lower classes.
11
Actually Charles, this kind of cruel, abrupt, pointless loss of life is one of the few things that cut across class boundaries. The boy could have been a billionaire and he'd still be vulnerable to drunk drivers.
12
ok so you mean that regardless of the class of the driver, this is still about class because the victim wouldn't have died if he lived in a more solid home.
this isn't about an inequality between driver and victim, it is simply about the victim.
i kinda have to agree that this might not have resulted in death if he had been a billionaire living in a mansion. the SUV prollly would have just gone through the entryway, not into the guy's bed (or couch or wherever he was sleeping).
or heck, just into the billionaire's garden. mansions tend to have yards which distance them from the road.

Mr. Mudede:

Your belief in Marxism temporarily set aside: Why do tragic stories such as this make people assume the absence of god(s) in the universe?

(Full disclosure: I tend toward misotheism.)

Hera is psychotic; Loki a betrayer of Aasgard; Eshu, of the West African Yoruba, a monumental deceiver and the creator of all strife--and on and on.

Don't forget the monotheists either; Isaiah 45:7 says it all.
14
@13 I'd never heard of misotheism. Had to look it up. I'm curious as to how you define yourself as one. What is the position you uphold? Are you merely an anti-theist using creative terminology? Are you an atheist who wishes to note a deep hatred of the concept of a god? Are you a theist who hates the god/s you believe in? All gods or some/one in particular?
Sorry about the bunch of questions, but I'm quite curious about the term.
15
Charles, my very first thought was of that poor kid thinking he's safe in his bedroom in some cheap-ass trailer.

It is too cruel.
16
@14: Maybe he's just a pretentious twat.
17
Again, bitter much Charles?
18
Dear Chuck -- Could you elaborate?
19
Does anyone or has anyone here lived in a mobile home? The class order was invisible to me as a kid. I always felt safe in my mobile home bedroom. But for the grace of God* go I.

*by God I mean pure chance

@14
Thanks for the questions. I would have liked to have continued this as a public conversation--something we can do privately, if you wish--but the snipe at comment 15 effectively precludes that. To use his/her own words from an earlier post on another subject:
The stupid thing is, there's probably a good argument to be made against my statement, but you're not going to be making it. So I'll check out now, if you don't mind.

Anonymous little shit.
21
Perhaps a misotheist is someone who worships fermented soybeans?
22
Oh, I see. Misotheist means "giant dildo".
23
@20 Yup, one negative comment utterly destroys your ability to answer a sincere and polite question from another party. Cuz' that's how internet threads work.
24
Why are Chuckie's blog posts becoming more and more incoherent?

No more Robo-trippin' on the job, Charles!
25
Laurence Ballard/@ 20,

I, too, was wondering. I've never heard someone describe themselves that way, either. I saw the prefix miso- and combined the two words to grasp that you tend towards hating god(s). Which made me wonder:

- Are you an atheist who hates the idea of god(s)?

- Are you a theist who hates the god(s) you believe in?

- Dystheism?

So, bummer re no answer. I guess this is yet another mystery that remains unknown.

Best wishes.
26
Laurence @20, I apologize for the twat business. But really, I think you're just name-dropping. I mean, why didn't you respond to Lynx @14 instead of my throw-away line?

By the way, Charles doesn't have a "belief in Marxism". He observes Marxist patterns. Maybe that's all you actually do -- observe theological patterns -- but of course, that doesn't sound nearly as splashy as "tending toward misotheism".

Anyway, I promise not to pick on you if you do decide to respond to Lynx's very good questions.
27
This thread is dildos.
28
@25 Misotheism works in mysterious ways, it's all the explanation I need, Kim.
29
Thank you for your thoughts, Outercow. And, the smile...
30
And, re "it's all the explanation I need, Kim" makes me smile, because peace is a very beautiful thing. It, peace in the form it arrives to us, is a rather unique thing, in my opinion.

I must get packing, later I must torment PDX with my guitars...
31
Nobody consistently knocks my mental track off it's well worn path like you, Kim. Damn, I do really need to start practicing meditation. I envy your communion with your instruments. :)
32
Ooh, I have to share! Poking around on the Wikipedia page for misotheism, I found this doozy of a line from Noah, following God's command about what to do with a conquered tribe. It's from Numbers 31:17-18.

"Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves".

Not nice, God. Not nice at all.

Real quick here homies.....
I haven't spoke to any media, nor read any newspaper articleI or blog related to my brothers horrific and tragic taking, but I must say that Bo (Austin) would truly get a kick out of the mind-exploring quetions, statements, and opinions that this tragic situation has prompted on this thread. Be it just as a troll even, people are thinking and talkig about a situation that they haven't yet had to face... And even the most horrible things that anyone could think to say or criticize about any presence of money or God in our family would be of the utmost welcome in his eyes, because he lived for a good troll or a good controversial conversation. However, this is also the same awesome dude that had rolled pennies before to get me my favorite cookies just to make me smile, and believed that the "Higher Power" was the one that lived inside all of us because, "We can only account for who we are, how we treat others, what we represent and believe in ourelves BEFORE we should even think about anything to pray to ..because all we know is what we are, and where we start..so God is in here first"...and he would point to his chest and then say "God would understand that." One of his favorite topics was religion and faith..and he trolled a'many folk with it lol
Now, those who feel the need to bring up class, or the fact that my Brother happened to reside in a "piece of shit" trailer...well I shall not let my Mother and Father ever know of this thread simply because their home..which is now in pieces.. was beautiful, and beautifully landscaped.
Any opinion you have of any God that may or may not exist would be welcomed greatly by Bo..have a hay day.. however the "Class" statements..? "Epic Fail"
If that's all you can come up with for topic of discussion after an SUV drove through a fence ... through my Mother's house....and over top of my 16 year old brother while he slept.... you shouldn't be talking of any adult issues..because you simply aren't there yet.
I mean no offense, I only mean to keep any conversation, at bare minimum, respectful for my family durig this, already unfathomable, time.
Thanks Homies,
The Sister that has just lost the most awesome human and Brother in the world. Amber K.

Please wait...
