I thought it was a given that any kind of construction around it/destruction of the viaduct that 619 would have to go. I'm still surprised that building has survived with that giant crack up its spine.
2
All three plans have demolition for the current Viaduct.

If the drill bit gets stuck, you'll see a lot more demolition occuring.

Tunnels == RISK.

Say goodbye to Pioneer Square. This is only the beginning.
4
That sucks. The Satori Group has been investing so much time into their space there.
5
Obviously, the tunnel should be designed with artist studios included. Underground batcaves along both sides, reachable by secret elevators in phone booths.

Or, we could all just move to Tacoma.
6
@3 is correct.

But we already have secret plans to get rid of it, actually, even if we won't show those to you.

Pioneer Square - first to go when the Revolution or the DBT or the Earthquake/Mountain strikes.

I used to have a studio in that building. Every day I went in hoping that it didn't crumble to the ground with me in it. Demolishing 619 Western is WAY overdue. The sad thing is, if it wasn't such an unsafe, shitty building, the rent would probably be out of a typical artist's price range.

No Damn Tunnel!

Hi,
We've started a Facebook Group:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=grou…

Here's our group description:

The 619 Art Building, with studios and galleries for 100+ artists, has been "The Art Building" of Seattle since 1979, and a cornerstone of Pioneer Square's First Thursday Art Walk - the USA's first Art Walk. It looks certain that this building is slated for demolition, and all artists must vacate by March 2012.

The 619 Western Facebook Group is open to everyone who wants to be involved in sharing information, ideas and plans about any aspect of the building's closure. Please invite all your friends who also love the art community at the 619 to get involved!

Please wait...
