Oh, fuck off.

If that were true, then next next year would be twenty-twelve, and the magnetic poles would flip.
2
Have you nothing better to worry about?
3
I'm worried about it, Five Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty. I'm worried.
5
I'm not going to start saying "twenty-" until the year 2021. Take that!
6
Ya know, if we put the 1st day of our calender at something rational, like say the day we landed on the Moon instead of the (not actual) birthday of a cult leader who may or may not have even actually existed, we wouldn't be having this problem.

I don't think I could use "Five-Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty" as a handle, TVDinner. Too long. And it certainly wouldn't let me use "5280" when I first started using it about a million years ago (I haven't tried since).
8
@7 well, yeah, cause we hadn't invented the Internet ... or even the Abacus ... back then.
9
I blame that Kubrick film. Damn Hollywood elite.
10
"Twenty-eleven" just doesn't sound right to me. I think it's just too irregular to that style of reading numbers. I think I'm expecting either a digit 1-9 (as in "twenty-one-eleven" for 2111), or another multiple of ten (as in "twenty-ten" for 2010 or "twenty-thirty-five" for 2035), not a single word representing a two-digit number that forces me to add three digits onto the end.

On the other hand, I can get behind "twenty-twelve" somehow. I guess it's the repetition.
11
Twenty-'leven.
12
maybe if we all speak in robot voices and go "the year is 2 .. 0 .. 1 ... 1" ...
13
@3 ha!
14
I've been saying twenty-ten for, oh, about a year now.

Is there anyone that hasn't?
15
Some of us were going to call this current year “two-thousand ten,” and some of us were going to call it “twenty ten.” For those going with the former, it was a mere continuation of the format we had used for the past decade. And those people were wrong.

I like this person.
16
Two thousand one zero
Party over
Oops
Out of time

But tonite I'm gonna party like it's 1799!
17
I can't decide between "twennalevun" and "toothanlevun".
18
I've been saying it that way Twenty Oh One. Because it's Right.

...maybe that's why I have no friends. :(

Please wait...
