Victim said he eventually was able to take suspect to the ground with a leg sweep.
Excellent.
"[Suspect] said he was facing a third strike and that he had nothing to lose.” . . . He believes he had nothing to lose; we on the saner side of society can obviously see that he had everything to lose.
Maybe he meant that he was facing a third strike for some other crime he'd committed so he had nothing to lose by committing yet one more. Or, maybe he knew he'd commit another crime and get caught for it eventually so he had nothing to lose by getting his third strike out of the way now.
I am sad there is no video to accompany this, so here is a substitute, silent store video making the rounds from a robbery earlier this week - please imagine Yakety Sax to accompany this Giant Stick v. hammer scene: http://bcove.me/t3ctv2b1

Yeah, did you just grossly misinterpret this situation, Charles? I take it to mean that the suspect was saying he fought so hard against being apprehended because it would be his third strike, which means prison time.
You don't need to assume anything when you can just read the police report: http://web1.seattle.gov/police/records/P… (you'll need to create an account first). Looks like the suspect had an outstanding warrant for theft.
Excellent.
