On the bright side, if we have to go to the trouble of mining Facebook fan pages to find things to annoy us....
2
Well, then, there you go, ladies and gentlemen. Serial killers = totally cool. Gays = sickening.
3
In their defense, Six Feet Under does totally suck.
4
that parents named their daughter "Sheelagh" is the real travesty here.
5
I've always been a bit weirded out by the sister/wife thing too. More so than boys kissing. I wonder if dexter's sister/michaels wife talks dirty out of the side of her mouth.
6
THIS is exactly why I will never be a twitter fan. I can barely remember to log in to facebook once a month or so, but I never post anything on there.
7
Does heterosexual kissing trigger feelings of repulsion amongst homosexuals? Or does it just work the one direction?
8
@2: Well, yeah. :-P Then again, since the objection to same-sex fucking is at least nominally (maybe actually? Hard to say, not much in the Bible, especially since "gay"-as-identity didn't exist when any of it was written; there's just the stuff about lying with man as with woman, which is ambiguous at best) religious, it is odd that the whole plays-a-serial-killer thing is okay but plays-a-gay-man isn't (though the way Dexter operates is pretty-well in line with eye-for-an-eye).

This is a glorious intersection of homophobia and over-identifying actors with characters. So many different kinds of stupid: it's making my brain hurt. C.M. Hall is great; they got that right at least. Should we go gay-up the Dexter fan page now?
9
I hate people who refer to being gay as "politics".
10
people are allowed to think it's gross to see guys kissing. i personally am grossed out by fat people kissing, but I still think they should be allowed to marry, legally speaking.
11
Danielle Fitzgerald sounds like a distillation of infuriating asshole: "I'm not a homophobe; you people just make me sick." Fuck right off.

12
Dexter is a paean to murder and hate. Hardly surprising to find haters among its fans.

@10 - Good point and I totally agree. So maybe gays wouldn't find guy-girl kissing reflexively off-putting for the same reason heterosexuals don't. There will be one participant who is a potential sexual partner. So by this incredible logic, watching homosexual kissing is twice as exciting for gays!
16
I have kind of the opposite problem...can be hard to see Michael C. Hall as anyone other than David Fisher. Never got into Dexter, though.
17
This Nellie Trust character has a click to send issue.
18
@10, the fact that you have douchey instincts re: fat people doesn't justify others' douchey instincts re: gay people.
19
And here I was thinking how it's going to be weird if I ever go back and rewatch Six Feet Under (which I adore) now that I've seen Michael C. Hall go from sweet, uptight, doormat David to cool-as-a-cucumber killer Dexter. MCH is a damn fine actor; those two characters couldn't be more different. But the last thing I would give a shit about is either character's sexuality. Stupid bigots. :(
20
I, for one, totally lose interest in hot actors once I find out they're straight.

GROSS!
21
So it's totally cool to watch him bloodily butcher someone, but it's sickening to watch him kiss someone. OK, well, *that* makes perfect sense.

Gawd, I'm glad I'm not 17 anymore.
22
I first saw Michael C. Hall as the Emcee in Cabaret when it was in Studio 54. You know, the one that started out with Alan Cumming. I didn't recognize him for the first few episodes of Six Feet Under, because he was playing such a different character. But then I realized why I kept expecting him to break loose.
23
@21: I wonder if it has to do with the suspension of disbelief. We KNOW he's not killing someone, but we know he IS kissing someone.
Fake homicide=OK
Real homokiss (even if acted)=squidgy feelings
24
@14: Maybe that explains the straight male excitement over lesbians? I'm a straight woman and I find two guys kissing to be pretty hot, not more than a guy and girl kissing, but more than two women kissing which does nothing for me. Not disgusted by it, depending on the couple I'll probably see it as a sweet show of affection, just not a turn on.

That is what I don't get by people who feel "disgusted" by same sex couple kissing. They're showing affection for each other, one of the most wonderful parts of human nature there is. What is disgusting about that?
25
@15 it's a public fan page that anyone can view. The idea that the names should be blurred seems silly to me as they 1) choose to put their real names on facebook and 2) choose to post mildly bigoted comments on a public site. If it were private emails or even wall posts between friends that only people with access/relationships with the parties involved could see I would agree that netiqute calls for a blurring of the names. Just not with this set of conditions.
27
oh lovely...the dexter comment is now gone. And Danielle has removed her account (or at least blocked it from me)
28
@18 I think a lot of times people conflate "gross" with "it doesn't turn me on." We put way too much importance on people's personal sexual desires and attractions, esp men's and esp when they fit the gender binary hetero white standard of sexuality, and forget that other people's personal sex lives are none of their goddamn business and are not on display for their approval.
29
Are you sure she didn't just mean that she fantasizes about sleeping him and if he's gay then it kills that fantasy..? Doesn't mean she's hating on gay people.
30
@27 The comment is still there, I believe it's disappearance is more a function of her having blocked you than anything else.
31
Leave it to bigoted simpletons to totally miss the fact that the Dexter character is a sexually ambiguous psychopath mimicking his ideas of normal human behavior to inconspicuously fit it among them.

Well, at least he's not gay.

Why can't 10,000 homophobes in Arkansas mysteriously drop dead?
32
I love the final comment there about Michael's wife being his sister on Dexter.

Also, try watching that episode of 6 Feet Under where meek and frightened David gets carjacked by that meth kid after getting used to him as the badass he is in Dexter. I think my brain broke.
33
@26 "Danielle's incessant nervous tittering (Lol, lol, lol) makes her seem more like a youthful, ignorant person than a bigoted, hateful person."

Right. Which explains this.

@26 "Danielle's incessant nervous tittering (Lol, lol, lol) makes her seem more like a youthful, ignorant person than a bigoted, hateful person."

Which completely explains this.

35
Youthful, ignorant. And (not surprisingly) from Spanaway:

36
I don't know. Seeing MCH make out with the Pope or Larry Craig could ruin Dexter for me.
37
I was less surprised by the homophobic stupidity than the fact that people still actually care about Six Feet Under, or actually ever cared about it.
38
Check out the comments here for more from Danielle who as mentioned before is probably not a bigot..

39
@35, her face alone explains it all. That is what ugly teabaggers looked like when they were young. 23 and that mouth is already horribly downturned. Blank eyes. Sad.
40
People just aren't used to seeing gay people kiss. I consider myself a strong queer ally and my sister is gay, but I've never seen her kiss her girlfriend. If I did it would make me feel odd. Just because I'm not used to it.

I vote for more gay-positive media on mainstream television. Get some of the Glee fags to make out, you know?
41
Oh and @39, you're being a dick. If you read her myspace page, you would see that she's been living on her own since age 17. Which is a far cry from the "typical" person today who lives with or depends upon their parents in one form or another until age 25. It's fair to assume that might age someone a little prematurely.
42
aged her prematurely, but it sure didn't give her a clue that her views are ignorant.
Not that I disagree with you that I'm being a dick!
44
You know how Dan likes to claim that he doesn't care if individual people accept gays as long as gays have equal rights?

And then he posts something like this.

Does this prove he's a liar or merely a hack?
45
The most disturbing parts of 6 Feet Under was when Brenda was sleeping around on Nathan!
David and Charles played awesome roles as two people really in love. More believable than most characters/actors.
Although I can't remember if Charles banged that hot singer chick.
46
Cadillac problems, Dan.
47
@37: "I was less surprised by the homophobic stupidity than the fact that people still actually care about Six Feet Under, or actually ever cared about it. "

Fuck off, it was a great show, still is.

I'm more disturbed that he fucked his co-star this season (I call her BOTOX SURPRISEFACE) and that her horrible acting caused his real-life divorce :( oh well, Dexter.
48
I can understand having your perceptions of a character being affected by another role that the same actor has, such as in the scenario ObeyTheFist (that a Zim reference, by the way?) mentioned @32, but that does not excuse the accompanying douchebaggery.
49
Stop freaking out and start watching Torchwood already.
50
Wasn't the "pretty good show" Six Feet Under created by a gay person? And not one of those decent quiet gays who don't flaunt it, but by one of those outspoken gays?

@49 Yay, Torchwood!
51
Six Feet Under was one of the best shows ever! Michael C. Hall is an amazing actor, so what if he played a gay character in a loving relationship with keith. If you don't want to watch two men kissing...don't watch. Get over yourselves!!!!
52
#45: Keith Charles *did* bang the hot singer chick, at her insistence, then she let him go from her tour.
53
But I was waiting for him to hook up with Bobby Cannavale, the other security guard on the tour.
54
Six Feet Under was miles and miles better than Dexter! Sure Dexter's plot twists are more exciting but the dialogue is hardly sufferable (I mean seriously, it's the fifth season. How many times do we need Dexter's voice over tell us "This could all be easier if I were just like everyone else. But I'm not like everyone else-- I'm a MONSTER") and MCH's acting ability is head and shoulders above the other actors on the show. David FTW.

@50 Alan Ball was the creator; not sure if he is gay or not. He is the same guy who did American Beauty and True Blood.
55
They are separated now, so "Dexter" is no longer banging his "sister". Love Dexter, loved Six Feet Under, who gives a shit about what this stupid girl thinks. She is so not worth any of our time.
56
This girl is dumb and hopefully she'll grow up and figure out that gay isn't icky. Sidenote: I just finished watching Six Feet Under through netflix. I was looking for a new old show to catch up on and someone suggested Dexter, but I think its much too hard to forget Michael C. Hall as David.
57
Yeah, I think her sentiment is misguided. But I also don't give a fuck beyond this lame post. Wow, nice cyberstalking and hating on the haters. You've shown 'em how to improve the discourse.
58
@57: Exactly!

@35: Quit cyberstalking her! You are only making yourselves look just as bad as her.

Some of you guys really need to pick your battles.

Please wait...
