Agree! There is no comparison, but he never fails to try...ugh!

That video never gets old. Good times.

I'll bet some of the people who died in Tucson yesterday were, along with their grieving families, selfless organ donors. Though tissue matching usually means donated organs travel long distances, it seems a particularly stinging irony that NONE of the people awaiting transplants in Arizona who failed their wallet biopsies would be considered suitable recipients.

This smear by the GOP and the MSM of trying to "blame both sides" is really fucking pissing me off.

There is ONE side where the hate speech is originating from in this country and it's not the left side of the political spectrum. And it's about fucking time that the GOP grows up and takes responsibility for it.

Hatred is an appropriate emotional response to President Bush's fraudulent wars. We like to pretend that the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan are abstract political actions. Hundreds of thousands of people are dead that wouldn't be if we didn't invade these countries. War is monstrous. It's evil.

The only morally defensible reason to go to war is if the suffering caused by war will be less than the suffering caused by doing nothing.

If I'm considered extreme for hating Bush for murdering these people then I'd rather not be fair and balanced.

But the difference between me and the shooter, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin, is that I want Bush to be prosecuted under the rule of law. They use code words to incite crazy people to attack public servants.

It's worth reminding people that the majority of those 98 patients kicked off the transplant list will die regardless of their ability to pay, because scientists have yet to figure out how to construct functional organs out of money. I wonder, how many Stranger staffers and Slog posters are organ donors? Has your family agreed to abide by your wishes in the event of your death? If everyone in America (or at least a sizable fraction of Americans) were organ donors, nobody would die waiting for one. It's one of the greatest tragedies of modern medicine.

The false parity is a constant theme in the media. Part of it seems to be the media excusing themselves for relentless sensationalism with a backhanded "Everybody does it, but it's gotta stop!" Part of it's the need to pretend that all sides of a debate are equally reasonable.

Sullivan, being an avowed conservative who seems embarrassed at how crazy the Republican party has become and mostly seems interested in nudging them slightly towards the center, is engaged in this very silly game.

There is a man, sometimes joined by other supporters, who can often be found in downtown Chicago with a huge poster of Obama with a Hitler Mustache drawn on. This started when the healthcare debate began. I have never approached him. I know that he is looking for people to approach him and argue. But what I would like to say is, "Do you know what Hitler did? Do you really understand what Hitler did? Because if you did you wouldn't be making the comparison."

but at least steve jobs got his kidney,

no word on the 4 year old he push out of line.

@8 You have strange taste in morning beverages.

@9: he's a Larouchie. you'll find them at Tea Party rallies, you'll find them at Lefty war protests. they're trying to provoke you to justify their persecution complex.

however, the Tea Party right is currently engaged in an effort to re-brand Nazism as a ideology of the Left. they focus on the presence of the word "Socialist" and not the "Nationalist" part. because they're the laziest, most self-deluding thinkers on the planet.

ok, maybe the Taliban are worse.
13
@9 He must think that Hitler attempted to give the German people affordable universal healthcare, and fell short of his goal because of profiteering frauds got a majority of shills elected in Germany's congress.

Sullivan has been on the warpath against Grayson for a long time as the token liberal he's not afraid to criticize to provide justification and "balance" for all his attacks on extreme right wingers. He never actually engages in an argument against Grayson, it's always just a contemptuous aside like in the linked example or brief note of condemnation. I doubt he actually listens to or thinks much about the content of what Grayson is saying, the tone just offends his delicate sensibilities and produces a kneejerk reaction that conveniently bolsters his "non-partisan" bonafides.

@9 as 12 mentions, those people are Larouchies. They are members of a cult and almost universally mentally ill (moreso than your average teabagger) so they are not worth engaging under any circumstances. They won't hear anything you say over the voices in their heads anyway.

Come on, Andrew! You're New Media! False-equivalencies are the bread and butter of the Old Media, but they're much harder to sustain under the real-time assault of (occasionally) intelligent minds & facts that is the web. Perhaps if you allowed comments on you're site, you'd be able to figure this out more quickly.
16
Those right wingers never take responsibilty for their destructive actions. They threw this country into the second great economic collapse and blame the guy, Obama, who saved us. They're idiots and fools.

[During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event.

"I don't see the connection," between the fundraisers featuring weapons and Saturday's shooting, said John Ellinwood, Kelly's spokesman. "I don't know this person, we cannot find any records that he was associated with the campaign in any way. I just don't see the connection.

"Arizona is a state where people are firearms owners — this was just a deranged individual."]

I'm glad that you're starting to realize that Sullivan is a dumbfuck.

@6, yes, everyone should be an organ donor. They don't do you any good when you're dead. And if God is capable of resurrecting you at the end of days, he can certainly whip up a new cornea, liver, or shinbone, should you be lacking one when he comes a-callin'.

But it's not true that if everyone were an organ donor no one would die waiting for one. The problem in Arizona, and the risk in many other places, is that no one will pay the costs of surgery, associated hospital expenses, drugs and follow-up care even if a perfectly matched organ is sitting in an Igloo cooler on the hospital's front porch. If someone's insurance company refuses to pay and the state's Medicaid program is de-funded, it takes a butt-load of benefit barbecues and bake sales to raise $200k, and a lot of time that the sick folks may not have.

Man, this all just comes down to the "Taliban Dan" ad Grayson ran.

Look, Grayson does attract some mouth-foamers excited by his combativeness - many of them still lay the blame for their hero's defeat on Jon Stewart using Grayson as an example of lying to voters in the name of lefty values.

For my part, I believe Grayson will be back soon enough, sitting on that personal fortune with nothing interesting to do.

If only the Republican health care plan were so simple and innocent. The Republican health care plan is to put the American people at the mercy of a deregulated insurance industry that is allowed to profit on the misery and sickness of others as they see fit, for it is the right of corporations to run their businesses without being forced to provide for the society they serve. Also, we must make sure that they don't have any unfair competition from any government programs!

Republicans don't see anything wrong with this because the majority of them are not in a position where they're unable to afford private health insurance. "Surely if I and all my friends can afford private health insurance, everyone else in this country can! Anyone who can't are just lazy, welfare-sucking, drug-abusing bastards who are trying to take MY hard-earned wages!" They would rather the poor and suffering die in the gutters than even attempt to carry them on their backs or lend a helping hand to their fellow citizens.

Is a guy who murders 5 people "better" than a guy who murders 10?

If these were your family members...

http://www.rawa.org/temp/runews/rawagall…

...you'd believe that Democrats are as bad as Republicans, since it was Democrats who killed them. But they're not your family members. They are far, far away and we mustn't let their violent deaths interfere with the sport of U.S. politics.
23
@22 O'Reily murdered Dr. Tiller. Huckabee murdered four police officers. Palin murdered a federal judge and a nine year old child. It seems FOX News is the cause of an awful lot of murders. The right wingers, including Roger Ailes are murdering Americans. They are warring on our fellow citizens while claiming moral superiority.
24
Saying republicans want people without their own health care to 'die quickly', a warning some say goes too far, if FAR from being equivalent to the tea bagger candidates/politicians openly anticipating civil war, second amendment remedies, going mama grizzly on liberal's asses, joking about poisoning Nancy Pelosi (Glenn Beck), shall I go on?

Please wait...
