so effed up.

I'm disappointed this was posted here. These hateful bigots want the publicity and the last thing we should do is give it to them.
3
Change the record Freddie.
4
Considering that Giffords lived despite being shot in the head at close range, in part because of the quick actions of her gay staffer this makes God seem pretty incompetent.
5
Why do you keep giving publicity to this wack job and his meager band of followers?

Isn't this exactly the kind of hate we don't want to help spread in the wake of such a tragedy?
6
As predictable as the sunrise.

Attention seeking is part of his pathology.
7
I agree with the others: Ignore this disturbed nutjob.

OK kids here is how it works. WBC shows up at inappropriate times spouting some retarded controversial shit "God hates fags so soldiers get blown up in Iraq" etc. On a side note it sounds like the god they worship might be Allah.

But anyway, they show up and talk shit, they then get denied their right to protest and sue the municipality for infringing on their first amendment rights, being as the first amendment exist to defend unpopular speech. They then receive a large cash settlement. Phelps was a lawyer before he got disbarred, the family also runs a law firm http://www.phelpschartered.com/home.htm
Basically the whole things is a scam perpetrated by the one things worse than homophobic religious zealots, lawyers.

The best thing is to ignore them, don't give them press, don't give them attention and don't let them get money from suing the city, which is paid with your tax dollars by the way.

Everyone is right; the publicity these assholes get does nothing but help them.

Something always astounds me though. These people protest the funerals of soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen with the most hateful and mean spirited rhetoric imaginable. As you might imagine, at these funerals, there are a large number of soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen, who have lost their closest friends and squadmates.

These men are trained to kill, and they're trained to be good at it. Yet no one has ever put a bullet into one of these people. I can't figure out why.
10
@9: Because they've also been trained to uphold the Constitution, which requires that people be afforded "due process of law" before the government (or its employees) may deprive them of life.
11
@9 because they aren't murderers. Although I'd be hard pressed to not feel it was justified if it happened.
12
@10 @11 I know. I'm with the 4th BCT, 2nd ID at Fort Lewis.

I just can't imagine losing one of my friends and seeing those idiots holding up signs and chanting their hateful shit. I'm just amazed someone hasn't gone off on them; I'd be hard pressed not to, myself.

Anyone else think Phelps looks like the guy in Last Crusade who chose poorly? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DGFuHC75…
14
I liked the part about the "mouthy witch."
15
Can we just not give them more of the attention they want? This is embarrassing that the video was reposted here.
16
If there was a God, Skeletor would've been struck down long ago.
17
Westboro Baptist Church makes big money suing the people they goad into attacking them. But if everyone stops paying attention, the money train stops and WBC goes under. So they badly need to jump on the media bandwagon when anything major like this shooting happens to keep the cycle of provocation-violence-lawsuit going.
18
Is it really giving them attention though? Posting it here, I'd wager very few readers are actually watching the video. Anyone who's familiar with the WBC just sees the name along with whatever crazy shit they've said today, shakes their head, and goes about their day without even watching the video (sort of like Bailo's posts).

@4 wins the thread.
20
@8: Clearly you know nothing about Islam.

Like #4 said, Giffords survived a bullet through the head, and some heroes of the day were a gay brown person and a woman. Looks to me like Phred Felps doesn't know God too well...
21
This kind of guy makes me wish Hell was real.
22
"...and his meager band of followers." The reason the group is so small is because it's the man's extended family, whom he rules with an iron fist of intolerance and hate. No one else comes to his "church." (Assuming they haven't gained any outside followers since the documentary "Fall From Grace" was released, anyway.)
23
If there is a hell Phelps you're headed there.

Please wait...
