For those who like haiku, waka are a more interesting variation. Five lines, 5-7-5-7-7. Generally, the ones in Japanese are based on punning homophones, but it's not a requirement.
May I suggest limericks as the next poetic form de jour? A little more challenging, and you skate past all the people who want you to know that they were awake during high school English.
