A nob is an aristocratic upper-class twat or twit. I'm sure both Simon and Collins meant "knob".

The prosecutor's name is Melinda Young.

Thanks guys! Corrected.

This doesn't really inform us (or dispel speculation) one way of the other.

Agreed.
Just clarifies that it is unknowable.

Obviously the only way one could properly carve is to have the lock engaged. Apparently their was no impact damage to the blade causing the knife to close. If one is going to attack another using a knife as a weapon, and if the one with the knife is a professional wood carver, then like unto the purposeful engagement in the carving of a totem, that professional wood carver would have made sure the knife was in the locked position. Therefore, this is just a speculative smoke screen to help cover the fact, that the knife was not in the open position as Mr. Williams was turning around to see what all the commotion behind him was about, and was unjustifiably shot at the same time. It was 7 seconds from Birk's first yell of, "Hey!" until he shot 5 times pumping four rounds into Mr. Williams. Birk had one in the chamber, and fourteen in the clip.

Also, take a look at the first and second videos. Mr. Birk had several options. The first is that Mr. Williams was walking down the street with his carving board in the midst of several pedestrians and bothering no one. Then Mr. Birk exited his car and propagated the whole scenario leading to Mr. Williams death. If you look at the scene, there was what appears to be an elevated parking lot that Mr. Birk could have used to approach Mr. Williams from the side, or run to the front of him so that he would see he was being engaged by a Police Officer. The wall and elevation, would have been an obstacle to any attack. Lastly, if you closely look at the video of the first responding officer, Mr. Birk is alligned with the far right side of an aluminum switch box. When the officers huddle together to approach Mr. Williams, it takes the first officer 8 steps to reach the feet of Mr. Williams. Given the shortened stride that the officers are taking, estimating 24" per stride, it appears that Mr. Williams was about 16 feet from Mr. Birk, who would have been able to move away from any attack.

I work on Aurora near 90th N. Yesterday the owner of the convenience store next door was physically threatened and chased by a customer. They finally got the guy out of the store and called the cops, who showed up TWO HOURS LATER. Which might be acceptable if you live in the bush in Alaska, but I know from being in this neighborhood for the last couple years that the cops are never more than 30 seconds away. If they want to be.

I just hope someday an officer helps me or someone I know so my opinion of them can start to be repaired.

Please wait...
